The Five Colours of 2000

Did a photoshoot with Paul Smith recently whereapon he produced his uber rare 1963 colour chart.

Here they are. I've love to think we'll get a Willow Green car at Coughton Court, and I have written to all known owners, but this is uncertain at this point.

Left to right: Wedgwood Blue, Willow Green, City Grey (almost invisible on a City Grey bootlid), Rover White and Copperleaf.

The two later Sharkstooth colours are Arden Green and Zircon Blue (October 1965 on).

Thanks for sharing Nick. :?: What's your favourite? My favourite P6 colour I think is still April Yellow (would love to see one at Coughton) but that was on later 60s cars.

Out of the original 5, it's a tough choice for me as they all look really classy on a P6. If I was really, really pushed to choose, it would probably be Copperleaf Red.

Copperleaf by a short head from Wedgwood. Both wonderful colours.

April Yellow is lovely, but extremely rare in the UK.

All three of those are great colours & really suit the S1. The S2 I'd be wary of, in the same way that I wouldn't put an S1 in Avocado even though the S2's look good in it.

:D

I have to agree it's a tough choice they both suit the car so well but having said that I don't think I've ever seen a Willow Green so who knows!

Wedgewood blue for me. Copperleaf must be so rare especially in original paint, didn't it used to oxidise really badly? Talking of uber rare early S1 stuff, has anyone got any Rover 2000 cigarettes? One other thing many years ago I was offered an early P6, one thing I recall is that it had a rimless rear view mirror, like the one in the red car in the P6 fulm. Been kicking myself ever since for not buying it. Never seen on with a mirror like this again.

There is a packet of the cigarettes at Gaydon on display with the box and gold car model, and Denis Chick (owner of the stunning 2000TC DHV338D) also has one.

I don't think I've ever seen a Copperleaf which hasn't been painted again.

My car's twin, DNP, has what appears to be a rimless mirror, but it's actually a slightly larger glass over the factory small type.

Cheers
Nick

Thanks Nick, The car I was offered was a white 63 car. Yes, I saw the cigarettes at Gaydon, also the salesmans tie. I also have an early salesmans guide, in a mini ring binder. Still looking for the early car!

Thanks for posting the pic's Colin. I have never seen one of these.

A long time ago I used to do some printing work using old letterpress type printing presses. I am not sure but the colours and trim card look as though they may have been printed using letterpress. If I'm right, you should be able to see slight indentations on the pages of the card where the lead type (letters) have pressed down into the surface?

Well the photoshoot finally happend. Thanks to Nick, Paul et al and especially Matt for taking the snaps. My amatuer effort below, his professional pictures will no doubt follow.

Regards

Alan

As always in these things it's a relief to see all the cars arrive, particularily in this case as we got painfully close to having all the Famous Five at both Coughton (no Willow Green) and Debbie's event (no Copperleaf) this year.

Result :D

:D Thanks Alan & Nick. The first pic above is now my desktop background :D
The cars look great and congratulations to all involved - quite an achievement.

And amongst that line up three celebrities - the Wedgewood is a factory engineering car, the City Grey an FLK and the Willow Green a former bearer of ROV 1 - one of Sir George Farmer's company cars.

You could say that all five are really, as the Copperleaf is the fourth oldest remaining and even the Rover White one is still a '64 car (despite the C plate).

The Willow Green car is a real character, and a premier league P6. It's still largely original and has been owned by the same family since October 1966.

Sir George Farmer's signature is on the log book.

A terrific day and a real honour to have been part of it. The atmospheric shot of my car in black & white Nick posted on Facebook is truly a time warp shot and a real credit to Matts camera skills. :D
