Back on the road with another engine. A coat or two of Satin Black planned for this coming week, the blue paint is in much worse condition now than when this picture was taken. Rear calipers leaking so bringing another pair up to scratch so a straight swap can be done. Josephine behind Bruiser is back off the road.

Sounds like a bargain to me . There's an old P6 with Wolfrace wheels near me that I have my eye on
Not to everyone's taste but I like them

Interesting pictures......

Now where did I see one like that before..? :? Oh yes,....in my garage!

Stick with it & it'll come right. Just need a bit of patience.

Phil.

Believe it or not, she'll be welded up, fitted up & in her new satin black outfit in a fortnight. Possibly a week but 2 seems more likely. Fortunately the inner sills are fine so it's mainly right angle sections from the floor to the middle sill. Less involved than our 2200 which needed inner sill & floor work involving removal of the interior & the drivers seat mounts to get at the affected areas. The rear arch sections will probably be the most fiddly & the box that takes the n/s/f wing bottom fixings needs rebuilding. We have the technology.

Anyone remember this Sharkstooth front panel that kept appearing on fleabay. Nobody ever bid on it which surprised me & I felt sorry for it so called my mate who lives in Bedford (where the seller lived) & asked him to pick it up for me which he agreed to. I then got it for a tenner on the 3rd or 4th time it was listed last year. Just as well as the Bruiser's was rotten on one end (the bit covered by the bin-liner actually) & a series 2 panel has different fixings as I found, so I rushed up to Bedford in the 110 on Tuesday & picked it up. I intended it for this car anyway & the only drawback I can see is that theres not as much room for the stick-on registration plate as the later panel. And I intend to keep it an adhesive type, I've already ordered it.

I think that you like your roads a tad too salty.
Thank God we keep ours on a low Sodium diet!

 I'm still chuckling after reading through that Cockney banter, that's "blindin'". The Bruiser looks great, I've only ever seen one other P6 rolling on Revolutions, that was a red series 1 with a 4.6 transplanted into it. I reckon that blue beast really would turn heads the length of the Kings Road. Good show fella, keep 'em rolling on 'er Maj's 'ighways, regardless of the salt!

If mine was that rusty , I'd give up. I admire someone who can see the light at the end of the tunnel

What, just for these little problems? Come, come now. Apart from this she's solid. As it happens because of the condition of my sills & the small size of digital cameras these days, here are some views inside the sill sections that are usually never seen.

As stated, the inner sills are fine, fortunately.
For some reason this site crops the right-hand from my pictures. You can see them on the P4 site where I also put them here : http://www.roverp4dg.org.uk/phpBB2/view ... 0960#10960

It's weird how the rust just stops at that level! I cut the base off my sills as they were becoming flexible in places, and the seam between the spotwelds was growing, but the rust stopped within 1/2 inch and left pristine metal above. At least you've got something solid to weld to there. Good luck and keep the pictures coming :D

Will do. Here are some repair panels I made & offered up today. Not the only ones but the most involved.

 It's very annoying that. Why does the site do this Webmaster?

Anyway, it's a bit of a jigsaw but the arch is a bit fiddly as I surmised & they're also not precision-cut. Though once they start getting welded together things always seem to look tidier. It'll probably evolve somewhat as my Brother starts to weld. I would like to completely remove the sill base's but we really don't have the time considering that this was only supposed to be a wing-change & respray. Should've known better but the metal left on the bottoms is still strong & resists hammer blows well despite it's appearance inside so it's going to stay. I'll chuck some Waxoyl in there & keep tabs on them though & if it starts going in the next few years I'll cut them out & replace them as you did. I'm going to invest in a welder & start having a go myself in the near future instead of relying on my Brother, not forgetting my Father who's done more than a little in the past though not so much now.

I'm still put off by heavy rust like that, our white 2000 is in a similar state to yours, but then was left in tall grass for four years :( . Learning to weld has definately been the best thing I've done yet, and you have your brother and father to learn from too

Yes, I was talking to a guy in the same yard as my Brother the other day about it & he said practise on rusty metal, it's all very easy when you've got two pieces of lovely new steel sheet but the crunch comes when you're under a car trying to weld new metal to whats left under there. Obviously you can't weld to pure rust anyway but you see what he means.

Welding starts on the most involved section. Off side rear arch.

I removed the front part of the nearside base today as it wasn't worth keeping what was left.

Use P4 link for the full pictures.

Thanks. Some more.
Thats welded in.

BruiserResto065.jpg

So onto this one. (Again, go to the P4 link to see all the detail.)

BruiserResto068.jpg

Went to get a bacon sarnie & a cuppa here so my brother forged ahead. It ended up like this.

BruiserResto.jpg

To get to that picture, once the front half of the post support was done we cut the other side some more to get to the rot behind it, welded the sill plate up & then put the outer plate over the top.

BruiserResto063.jpg

BruiserResto064.jpg

Then the front holes were plated leaving the entire sill looking like this & a bl**dy sight stronger than it was.
