Synthetic Oil in Steering Box?

Does anyone have an opinion about using synthetic oil in the manual P6 steering box? The service manual calls for EP90 but I have some Redline gear oil that is claimed to be the equivalent of EP90 and am wondering how wise (or stupid) it would be to use it?

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks guys, for the input. Since my original post, I discovered what may be a downside to using Redline gear oil. I tried it in the Tremec 5 speed gear box that I am using in my Rover and while the smoothness of shifting improved, a leak developed past the rear seal. So I drained the Redline and went back to non-synthetic oil and the leak stopped. Apparently the synthetic stuff has low surface tension and a tendency to leak. Don't know it this would be a problem with the manual steering box or not. And I'm not sure if this is a common problem or not. I did find a couple of hot rod forums where some mentioned the same problem but in general the comments about Redline were quite favorable.

Cheers,
Tom
