"Survivor" ? Rüdigers find, as usual :-)

A lovely looking p6. Ad says it is original unrestored. Is it my imagination or do all the wings look a different shade to the doors? (Viewing it on my phone)

Nice car. Does anybody know what the black thing on the leading inner edge of the drivers door is? Check the photo;

Looks as if there is a switch on the door jamb opposite. Also, what is the btton on the left of the floor in the drivers footwell?

Apologies. Just viewed it on my computer now and the write up does mention that the wings (fenders) were repainted (along with the boot (trunk)).

It is a really nice P6

Wiring/junction box for the electric windows? There's also a black covered cable going into the base unit (I think), with a white grommet visible where it goes through.

Is that the dip/main beam switch on the floor?

I've got a slight doubt about Eric being "essentially Exactly the way that he left Solihull in 1969" (not meaning the body repairs). If I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me.

Is that a standard coil that Eric would have been fitted with when built? What about the HT "king lead" (The HT from the coil)?

I realise coils can become defective and therefore would need replacing, as can any HT lead.

Note the blue sticker stating to check the gearbox oil level at the sight tube filler beneath the car. I seem to recall this sight tube being mentioned in the forum maybe 2-3 years ago; I think somebody asked how were they meant to check and top-up the automatic gearbox on a NADA as they couldn't find the gearbox dipstick. I'm almost certain it was automatic gearbox-guru Harvey that answered the question.

However here a gearbox dipstick is clearly visible! Were "red" dipsticks used on 1969 NADA's?

The Nada cars had a sight glass on the rear of the sump to check the level, and to act as the filler point in the event it needed topping up. Someone has obviously replaced that with a late type flexible dipstick and tube on this car.

Mrtask, the 'button' on the floor is the hi/low headlight dip switch. My stock carpet covers it. This looks as though the carpet has been trimmed around it.

Ah, I was on the right track then! :)

Thanks! :) My point is the claim that "Eric" is essentially the same as when "he" left Solihull isn't quite as valid as it sounds/looks IMHO. True, they're relatively small changes, dare I say an improvement with regards the gearbox dipstick IMHO, but would that imply the gearbox sump has been changed, or can the dipstick be fitted to the original sump? Are the later red dipsticks accurate if fitted to earlier gearboxes?

The black plastic cap on the inside of the drivers door is put there for the striker of the ignition buzzer, which can be seen in the picture. I think that all cars received dipsticks either in the factory and early cars at a regular service at the dealer. I do not recall any car without that red dipstick.

What I personally think is interesting is that is has both the aed and a manual choke..

I love bring a trailer, but it does have the most ill informed commentators there sometimes (like the rest of the internet I guess). You should have seen the one for the Hillman Imp a while back, it almost made me gag.

My 2000TC has the floor dip switch too. Yes, the stalk is just for flashing. Once you get used to it you can't help thinking all cars should have this! It's great at night on dark roads, you can just tap it with your left foot as you need to and keep both hands on the wheel.

Hi, most 50s and 60s cars had them and I use to hate them. Because I always seemed
to need to dip when I was engaged in a gear change. Automatics should have been
easier but I used to do left foot braking with them. I always used to convert my cars to
stalk switch.

That is one very tasty NADA P6...!

I love the fact the it is pretty much 'fully-stocked' as it shows what you could have on your P6 if you ticked all the boxes as it were.

I've never understood an ignition buzzer as surely it is pretty much impossible to forget to take your keys out?! I'd much rather have a headlights buzzer

Anyhow, as I said, this is a darn lovely car.

You're joking, right?

Re: "Survivor" ? Rüdigers find, as usual :)

My previous P6 had a lights buzzer. I baulked when I first discovered it, dug for it and yanked it out. It was so harsh, so wrong. And so badly connected up.
