Surrey region help requested

Good evening,

I’ve been trying to own my dream car; a Rover 110 for a number of years. I’m on my second after the first one didn’t go very well (neighbours harassed me all the time when I worked on it in the street).

Now in a better position in life I’ve acquired another. However I’m not experienced with classic cars and am struggling a bit. I’ve always worked on my own cars quite successfully. Hence my optimism in taking on a car I know that I will need to fettle and tinker with. I’m keen to learn. There’s plenty of advice out there online and I own a technical tips manual. However I need some guidance on where to start.

I’m hoping someone might offer to pop round and show me what might be out of place/non standard on my example.

Surrey region near Guildford.

I pass close to Guildford several times a month, but sadly my limited knowledge is strictly limited to a P6. I would have no idea with your car, but hopefully, not too far away someone will be able to help. Are there any Jobs that clearly need attention to begin with, there’s always lots of very clever people on this forum happy to offer advice. Good luck.

I know that I’ve been having a problem with fuel supply. I’ve cleared the lines out and have good fuel flow now. Though suffering from very poor running, backfiring and cutting out.

Some non standard electric fuel pumps have been installed which I thought were part of the trouble though it seems to no longer be a problem with the lines cleared. Other than with headlights on the fuel pumps bog down considerably. I installed a dynamator upgrade to try and counter this issue. But with the car not working I can’t test if this was successful.

I’ve ordered a new coil, points and condenser which should arrive tomorrow.

I’m feeling a bit under pressure as I agreed to take my nephew to his prom in it this Monday. When I agreed this the car was running very well. After being parked up for a week it all went wrong.

Do you go near Dunsfold Airdrome?
Nigel has a workshop there; not a specific P6 man, but a true old style mechanic who has looked after my 3500S for some years. He has rebuilt my carbs and reset all mixture and timing after I messed with the internals. Later he cleaned and rebuilt them after clogged with stale petrol. Car mow runs like a dream. Cant remember his contact details but ask for "Nigel's garage" at the main gate
