Stiff gear selection BW35

As the title implies my P6b selection went from smooth to very very hard to move between drive positions.
The gear box performs well in all stages.
Before I start the console removal process from the top to get at the selector housing.
Anyone else had this problem? and what was the cause.
happy new year
Gerald

Hi, Don't just assume it's the selector housing, it could also be a problem with the compensator on top of the gearbox. Try disconnecting the linkage from the bottom of the gear selector and see if it's still stiff then. If it is then it's the selector, if not then the problem is in the compensator.

Thats what I wanted to hear. Ive had a spherical bush break before and it doesn't feel like that. Something outside the box has seized.

Hi Gerald,

Just had something similar whereby my gear shift was stiff between drives and the shift button didnt depress properly. The cause was/is the pin which passes through the lever, this had moved sideways and one end was jamming inside the housing.

Remove the indicator panel and look down the sides using a torch to see of the pin has moved. Id so get a pair of needle nose pliers and move the pin.

Regards,
Craig

Craig - your response sounds exactly what's happening to mine.
Shift button not depressing, lever hard to move.
You may be onto something there for me
thanks

So the stiff gear lever shift has been attended to.
I has some good leads ,thanks to this forum.
Turns out exactly as 74Westy had suggested.
The selector lever pin had shifted sideways and jammed inside the housing.
During the dismantling of the console and speaker grill to remove everything to get at the lever pin I found one of my a/c control pipes was broken.
The Factory a/c had not worked 100% for years -now sorted.
The gear lever light cables had parted company at a union under the carpet- also did not work for years -sorted.
So all in all a great afternoon sorting P6 problems without getting my hands all greasy.
thanks guys
