Static Seat Belt Fetish

I don't live there but used to deliver in the area quite regularly. These days l'm more often to be found on the upper reaches of Watling Street.

My uncle Ern had a farm just off Watling street, I used to visit at the weekends when I was in short trousers. This used to also mean the partaking of a
raspberry ripple ice cream from my aunty Caroline's Shell garage at Hockcliffe.

PS I used to stand on the rubber tube that ran across the forecourt and rang the bell, ice ream bribery cured it, I was a very naughty boy.

Many's the time l've taken the night time A5 as an alternative to the tedious M1 & use the M6 section a lot too as FedEx & UPS have depots on the Tamworth stretch. I much prefer to use the old roads when l can. You can often drive on the limiter at night though it is quite well used by the lorries. We stayed in a very nice B+B right on the road in Towcester for a night on the start of a holiday tour, the owners weren't fans of the trucks & after a night in the front of the house l could see why.
They were looking forward to the bypass & promised 7.5 ton weight limit through the town but that was five years ago & it hasn't happened yet.

There are a couple of interesting looking houses going through Hockcliffe but l've only ever passed through.

This has turned into my general auto-aquisition thread so here is the latest 'bay oddity(?), well l haven't seen one before anyway:

The yellow seems to be illuminated in all three functions. The Pass/dipped & Drive/full elements operate as expected but the Yellow/fog contact switches them off & cuts out most of the white light so the yellow is prominent.
I'm assuming there are three contacts so there must be three elements, one higher in the yellow shade to operate the fog function:

It's a 5 3/4" unit so l will fit it to Bruiser 2 eventually with an extra switch & a relay or two to control it. I suppose it may fall foul of some rule or another (three dipped lights or fit a fourth too/one yellow?) but it's not an imminent question until maybe next year. It is of course, sealed beam which throws up the probability of element failure at some point. I've had a quick search but haven't seen any others like this, just those with yellow lenses. Still, it's a good thing, maybe French or French market perhaps, as 'Foreign' usually denoted Japanese manufacture in the post-war years & l'm happy to have picked it up. I did check it was fully functional before l bought it for thirteen of your finest (as Henry would say) & fortunately it survived the journey to me.

I suspect someone here must have seen them before.

And liking a bit of automobilia, l bought another oil dispenser too:

Couldn't resist a pair of export indicators for my P5B with good units too:

And l had this can on my watch list for some months though it was rather too much money. Even after a price drop it wasn't cheap so it languished there tempting me until my lovely wife splashed out for Christmas & l found it under the tree. It's a survivor but has really been through the wars, l haven't seen another & it will clean up to a certain extent. The Rover logo is embossed & it's a quality can though most would have been disposed of without a thought of course:

Do you think the yellow headlamp unit was for the French market? Although labelling being in English is odd

Yes, it did occur to me, l mentioned it in the post. It's a nice thing & l'm looking forward to wiring it in, l have to work out a relay/switch configuration which should be interesting.
Also putting the early rear light lenses in as extra brake/fog lights. Original reversing light too unless Harvey has forgotten l'm having it again & has sold it.

Not really forgotten, definitely not sold it, but as I'm not 100% sure where it is, and can't be arsed to look, that's why it's not in your possession. My advice to you would be to keep saving up.....

An extremely nice set of door cards for my Oxford Traveller (to be recoloured) & a good pair of rear carpets. Bought from farceache marketplace, so it's not all chancers & messers.

Well, my stepson & his fiancé's new VeeDub bus is strictly a local girl at the moment. A couple of hills on the M11 & M25 was enough to show that the trip to Richard Moon's workshop in Newbury was a possibility too far. Losing power, smelling of hot fuel & backfiring her way slowly up the inclines got us admitting defeat, cooling down at the Waltham Abbey truckstop & returning via the the Epping road through the forest which was the very antithesis of the outbound journey, leisurely & pleasant.
She'll do the journey again in a couple of weeks......on a trailer:

I don't think those monster Webers are helping, they'll be swapped for a single progressive unit & sold on:

Re-reading through this thread reminds me of things l have bought & am waiting to use which l find is a useful function in my advancing years. ;)
I got the mentioned early reversing light assembly from Harvey though the lens was missing. Fortunately Chris had a NOS light for sale so l bought it. Going by the colour perhaps the bracket came off a City Grey car, Harvey thinks l should get the Tough Black out but l rather like it & Bruiser 2's roof will still be City Grey too. We'll see:

A concern is that it will stick out too far with the bumper not being fitted though l think it should be alright bolted to the front face of the 'jack' block.

We picked up the Oxford from Yorkshire at the weekend & had a few pleasant days giving her a shakedown around the area. After some teething trouble with the reconned starter it all went very well & the new engine has settled in nicely. After an uneventful journey back down south, there are fifty miles left to complete the running in:

I've also collected a spare rear seat back in the correct colour (gratis) which is a little bit damaged on the offside but that's of no consequence as l'm planning on cutting it in half to make a split seat for a rear passenger plus loadspace when needed, so not a permanent feature but to be swapped in when required.
Incidentally, the guy l got the seat from has really done a number on his estate including turbocharging the totally stock 1622 'B' series. He said he's done all the mathematics & is confident it'll work. It's no thrown together job either, it's a beautiful work of art. Recovered A55 bench seat in the front which is nice, scratchbuilt boost gauge in the style of the original clocks, Webasto sunroof, lowered on air suspension with split & narrowed TR6 wheels upfront, same on the rear but widened, pressed & shaped aluminium door trims....the list goes on, the work is superb & all done by him. Not quite a sleeper but subtle, very subtle. A lovely thing & l look forward to seeing it at a show.

You may possibly recall me mentioning this chap & his excellent Oxford Traveller build. I just found his very interesting record of the work done so far. Still not on the road yet though:

1967 Morris Oxford Traveller - on hold - car buried | Build. Restore. Modify

It links to his short guide on 3D printing too (which he uses to great effect) should you be interested.

A visit to the in-laws & a cruise along Clacton seafront took care of the running-in mileage.
New oil & filter next with a re-torque of the head bolts & a check of the tappet gaps:

I walked past one of these at The Enfield Pageant at the weekend, the one on the left actually & thought £25 didn't sound a lot so l walked back.

20220529_151027.jpg

The stallholder pointed out another one at the back & said offers accepted as he was keen on losing some weight so inspired by the new series of Shed & Buried l offered him £15 for the front one. On the way back to our stall to get some cash l thought l'd try a BOGOF so on my return l offered £25 for the two which was accepted. I don't know why l fancied a pair of little Villiers engines, possibly their self-contained status but l know someone who may possibly enjoy a bit of a fiddle-around with the mechanics of them & l'll enjoy making them look a little bit more presentable.

It was apt as Henry Cole was actually at the show on Sunday. My wife said she saw him drive past the stall & it turned out she was right, he appeared over at the show arena.

Turns out the engine was fubared & needed a complete rebuild. One of the valve seats on No4 was loose in the block amongst other faults, including all the tinware needing repairs & setting up properly. So after an amount equalling the original purchase price has changed hands with Rich Moon, the work is done, the carbs are replaced with a new single unit, some dangerous under-dash wiring has been replaced among a few other jobs & it's now a very nice van & still worth some more than the total amount spent so far. It's just about rot-free, a South African eight-seater bus converted to a camper so no extending roof but it's a tidy thing & by the time my stepson's fiance has put her stamp on the interior it'll be more than that. As for the money, well they can get married next year.
Let the summer frivolities commence:

Another recent purchase was this original showroom/Motor show(?) display board for a slightly earlier 'Oxford' model than mine.
Bought on the 'bay for what l think was a good price, l reckon the vendors picked it up at a boot fair as the rest of their items seemed in that sort of vein though this was the most expensive of them. A nice thing:
