Must be time for an update, it's been a while.
Carbs have been adjusted and balanced following the instructions I found, and now starts and runs pretty well, and being auto and power steer is actually a perfectly reasonable car for getting about in.
The thing was parked up for a while after the bolts between the bell housing and trans got loose and and a replacement bell housing taking a while to find. It's now back together with the trans serviced while it was getting fixed, and the kick down cable adjusted so it changes gears at more sensible revs.
There are still a couple of electricals to sort out, it appears the oil pressure switch is dead so needs replacing, and something isn't right with the brake fluid level/handbrake warning. The park switch on the wiper motor is stuffed so currently trying to time it right switch off at the right place to park the wipers, once that's replaced I can also see if the wiper delay works or not.
It's had a bit of an intermittent misfire that's recently got worse, and noticed that when it happened the rev counter also dropped which pointed to a spark and not fuel issue as I first thought. After a bit of playing around I've discovered that the problem goes away with the vacuum advance disconnected from the distributor, so I'm thinking something must have come adrift in the mechanism and it's affecting the points somehow. Might be a job for this weekend to pull it apart and see what's going on.
It seems the original intention of keeping the car around until one of the others was sorted out might be getting forgotten, not helped by happening upon
This video and my wife suggesting that the p6 and the 70's Sprite we own would make a similarly appropriate combination.... fortunately with classic car registration and insurance it's only around $300 a year to have it around if it ends up hanging around.
