Starter/ Solenoid connections

hello again.
I think the coil has burnt out on the solinoid, having it apart with live on the live terminal, the earth side does not register.
Any body have one for sale? I do not particularly want the starter motor as I do not relish trying to remove my one, I find approaching my 82 birthday I should be taking up knitting.
That aside, also need a light switch with green knob, passenger door mirror, rear passenger door repair pannel.
Any responce, welcomed
Regards
Brian

hello again,
solenoid seems to have a short, so no go
Is there, any other vehicle (3500 auto) parts that would fit, (MG etc) I need to find out the engine condition before any more restoration
I am still desperate for a solenoid
Regards
Brian

I'm probably missing something here, I often am, but if you haven't taken your starter motor out, how are you working in the solenoid?

Richard

Take the earth lead off, give it a good clean where it contacts, and put it back on, do it up tightly

Might help

Hello again,
solenoid seems to be burned out, any body know of one for sale, preferably just the solenoid, as I am now under lockdown, (age), and I still have the starter motor in situ, and I really do not fancya lot of crawling about at the moment
I would really appreciate any help at the moment
The solenoid is the later one with two short screw fixture, not the two long screw type

Richard,
just picked up your post. the solenoid can be removed without removing the starter, two small screws hold the solenoid to the motor case
the trick is unhooking the operating lever.
I found to take the solenoid (after a few mishaps) off to check it, under the lever is a mall drain hole, I tapped this out to 1/4" bsf and loosely inserted a long screw, this held the lever in position, I removed the solenoid body, leaving the brass core in situ. I checked the solenoid by inserting a section of brass bar to check the solenoid
Hope this makes sense

Hi Just had a look at the Diagram from Roverp480. If the ballast resistor is faulty would that cut power to the coil? My problem is no sound from the starter. I've redone the spade connectors and replaced the tired and bodged solenoid. All the electrics work except the starter circuit. The only sound is the shiny new relay in the wing. I've bypassed the inhibitor switch but still no joy. No power to the coil or the electric fuel pump. It's V8 automatic that I've had for four years. This is a very recent headache! I'm stumped. Any ideas/
