If you haven't touched anything else then it will be either a bad connection on the starter, or an internal problem with it.
A poor engine earth can cause it, but if it was OK before and you haven't touched it then there's nor reason for it to be causing a problem now, but you can eliminate it by putting a jump lead between the engine and a good earth on the base unit.
Did you replace the brush springs? I had a generator and a starter motor both rebuild by an auto electrician. The electrician did not replace the brush springs. I replaced the brush springs myself, and both were brought back to proper function.
