Standpipe oil filters

Hi all, I normally use Bosch 4063 oil filters because they have the internal standpipe. Unfortunately they seem to be in short supply these days. Does anyone have an alternative product with the standpipe that they recommend?

Best,

Steven

Yes, because the filter is orientated 'upside down' the oil drains back, the 'standpipe' up the centre is an alternative way of stopping that. Some filters have a flap disc behind the holes as a non return valve.

I've found the anti drain valves don't stop the oil from draining past the bottom end if left for a week or so. the standpipe keeps the filter filled to lower the time it takes to build pressure when starting.

True story from my 2000TC days. Knew 2 guys in the trade, mostly 4 cyl models - had saturday lunch with them frequently. 2000 type filters were in short supply down here in early 70s. They visited another firm in the trade and asked if they had a source. Nah, we just wait until we have 2 cars in and swap their filters. Bit like the scene in Catch22 where the nurses swap one patients empty drip bottle with another's catheter drain.

I've come across all sorts of sharp practices by unscrupulous motor traders, which I won't go into here. It's made me realise that cars are generally resilient and long-lived despite people's antics, rather than because of them.

Sadly, this isn’t anything new. My parents had a Bedford CF motorhome back in the 70’s. Always dealer serviced. After 30k miles it went in. And two of the (nearly inaccessible) spark plugs snapped in the head. Mechanic reckoned they were the ones that the van came out of the factory with.

The OHC engines used taper seat plugs IIRC, which were always hard to get out, but the heads used to crack between the water jacket and the plug hole, rusting the plugs in there, and that was normally the rearmost plug, so you had no chance of getting those out.

Yep, iirc it was a head off project. (I was 10 at the time!)

Fram PH2821A, though I’m not keen on Fram. I’ve got a Baldwin number too, I’ll post that a little later once I dig one up.

The filter requires both the standpipe & the antidrain valve.

BT216 I think is the Baldwin number. You can buy from big machine parts dot com

I did post photos on here of a PH2821A open a few years ago,
