Squeak when running new cam and lifters

Hi all recently fired up my newly built engine and after about 10 minutes idling it has developed a squeak I have disconnected the belts to isolate them and they are fine ... I've removed the nearside rocker cover and. The noise seems to be coming from around that area ... I have read elsewhere that you should run the engine at 2000 rpm when you've fitted new lifters and cam shaft for 20 minutes ... has anyone expirenced this? Any help would be appreciated

Couldn't tell you what the squeak is from but, it is standard practice to run the engine at 2500 rpm or more for about 15 minutes to break in the flat tappet cam.

Hi Paul.
Have come across that problem before sounds like lack of oil.
2 possibilities.
1 did you assemble the rocker shafts the correct way round / the notch on the end of the shaft has to be fitted as per workshop manual or you will get no oil supply to rockers, also on the rockers themselves is the oilway clear to the pushrod seat?.
2 have a look at the pushrods at each end, the wear pattern is different to the lifter seat and the push rod seat.
When the pushrods wear a pimple can show on one end , if fitted back incorrectly can shut off the oil supply from the rocker to its seat causing the squeak .
Clive.

The push rods rockers and shafts are all new ... then new shafts didn't come with a notch in the ends so the research I did told me to face the oil drillings on the shafts towards the inside of the V if that makes sense ... there was definitely oil up to the rockers I could see it .....the squeak seemed to resonate around the engine bay making it hard to pin point but im sure it's from the rocker / valve train area ...thanks

Might be worth taking the rocker assembly off for a look see at the rocker seats for oil.
Clive.

After running today for 20 minutes at 2500rpm the noise has gone then engine now sounds awesome ... thanks for your input chaps
