Spot the P6

I see the P6 but don't give much credence to his timeline. Not until the cost of electric cars drop & their range increases. Not to mention the politicians ceasing to worry about their future career paths. :D

Just got back from China on Friday, in my travels around my city in northern China I came across a range of electric cars price starting at 10,000 rmb so around 1,120 GBP......cheap enough? :D

ewww what an ugly looking thing the C5 was, no these were full on normal looking cars, very attractive looking and just a little bigger than a smart car but with 5 doors.

All still very worrying for classic car drivers who love their petrol engines. Would our cars eventually be banned altogether and where would we get fuel?
Alao just don't understand these driverless cars - everyone focuses on whether they will be safe etc but the point that all these articles miss is that people like us ACTIALLY LIKE DRIVING! I don't want to hop into something and be transported somewhere rather like a car passenger is today. I want the experience of driving there. Driving may be just about getting from A to B for some people but for others it is the driving experience which counts! I can't think of anything I would want less than an electric car that drives itself.

Hi, Personally I don't think there can be driven and driverless cars operating together drivers are too unpredictable for driverless to work safely and consistently.

I agree with TRM 8 years it too short a time for a seed change like that to electric vehicles.

I'd like an electric car that drives me back from the pub! Other than that, not really bothered for self driving cars as I do enjoy driving (most of the time but I swear that there are more terrible drivers on the roads now than there used to be).

Likewise, I don't think the 8 years mentioned in the article is anywhere near realistic, but I can see the predictions coming true over a longer period of time.

First off, having driven an Electric VW Golf and from what I've heard of driving a Tesla I enjoy electric cars. They have torque from the first degree of movement which makes for extremely fast acceleration and fun driving.

Self driving cars are another thing though. The software has a long way to go, the number of variables a system would need to process are astronomical. I think it will be a long time coming.

Secondly, I don't think with the current situation in DC that electric cars or anything even slightly forward thinking will happen. They are talking about coal for heaven's sake! What is this, the 19th century?

hybrid is the direction for now. hydrogen fuel cell. petrol etc even alcohol can be used in combination with battery power. the issues not looked at now are cost of batteries. resources for mass production. scrap costs .environment issues etc.
all have a massive effect globally. world population increases are very much a concern but nobody taking any real action in that direction.even China given up . there is only so much space on roads. resources. land to build etc . so will all end in tears. fully agree the expierence of actual driving is what it is about. electric car are useful and have a place. haven drive fork lifts etc I can attest high immediate torque and quietness. reliability better with less moving parts too. unsure who we will fare in next ten years as emissions controls start o impact everywhere to a point our cars may simply get too 'dirty' to use on roads.
enjoy it while you can. the concept of small electric.hybrid rental cars will push things. imagine if we can all lease cheaply? not worth buying new cars these days.
