Speedo Wobble - Smiths Angle Drive

Hello

Back in the Cretaceous Period when my car last run, it had a wobbly speedo - pretty annoying. So as part of the rebuild, I got a new BW35-end angle drive, got a replacement cable that ended up being the wrong one, so I checked the old one on removal and it is not busted so I am thinking it's still OK. But, the next item on the hit list is the speedo end angle drive. It has a LOT of slop in the drive pin shown on the pic and you can turn it quite a bit before the input turns at all. I am thinking this is likely to be the cause of the wobble?

Next question - where on earth to get one. My initial search came up negative.

Thanks - I forgot about this option, should have checked on there. I reckon I will just buy one anyway. and I will have to think up some other small odds and ends to make it worth the postage.....

It is a Smiths BG2410-00. I think the one you have is missing the screw on plate that has a threaded ring that screw onto the back of the speedo. You can swap those plates over easily between BG2410-xx variations. What it does is align the drive at the correct angle for the speedo cable to go on.

it should look something like this: NOS CLASSIC RANGE ROVER SPEEDO ANGLE DRIVE >1984 579164 | eBay

Not sure is this is the right one so I do not recommend buying it.

here is a used one: Smiths Speedometer 90 Degree Angle Drive Gearbox GB2410/00A

Hi

Here it is fully assembled with the extension piece that I had removed on the first pic - it is LHD by the way. As you can see on mine the drive square peg thing is a lot longer than the others.
