Specification of original shock absorbers

I bought a pair of NOS front shock absorbers, part n:eek: 572994, and subsequently learned that they are intended for the 3500 with power steering. Does anyone know in what way they differ from the ones for cars with manual steering in terms of behaviour/performance and, why they were deemed necessary on the PAS cars?
Oh, by the way, my car is a -75 2200TC.

Manual steering: 572554 (GSA190)
Power Steering: 572997 (GSA344)
Heavy Duty: 516747

I'm posting this after searching the forum in vain, but perhaps it's already been covered?
All help much appreciated.

I don't know why they had different specs, but for normal road use, you won't notice any difference.
 
More heavy equipment up front would be my guess at the reason, so perhaps they are stiffer, and offered as a mid way between STD and HD

The PAS dampers will match the PAS springs as they were different to non-PAS for some reason as well. Possibly the extra weight of the PAS install as you mentioned, but I've never changed the springs when doing PAS conversions (and I doubt anybody else has either), and I've never noticed any detrimental effects to the handling or roadholding afterwards.

HD spec were fitted to Police vehicles.

As you say, I'll probably won't notice any difference from standard dampers, but it FEELS good assuming that they might be stiffer than standard ones, especially when driving on the poor roads in my home county, worn down by yearly frost damage combined with lots of heavy traffic in the form of timber transports and on top of that parsimonius road authorities.
 
Does anyone know (apart from the above possibility) if there's any difference in the specs of front shock absorbers?

I notice that some are advertised as 2000/2200 & others as 2000/2200/3500. I need to replace Hazel's - a series 1 V8 - & there are some available at various prices, so was just checking :hmm:
 
Thanks Harvey, that makes sense, although I didn't think there was much of a weight difference - probably just to handle a bit sharper?
 
I would imagine the different front suspension geometry on the V8’s were also a factor in different dampers up front. The V8 has shorter lower control arms and a larger variation in camber angle under compression as a result.

As for stiffer shocks on PAS cars I would say they expected quicker turn in and as a result faster weight transfer vs the slower steering of a non PAS car.
