Snub Rubber - Anyone know where to get one?

I am still on a quest for a snub rubber, I have tried all the normal places ie those listed on the site as suppliers, to no avail. Wins are on holiday until august 1st but not holding out much hope there,
S & G Walker said turn the old one round, this is not an option as its totaly shot.
and Ray Weekley sugested putting a bit of rubber tube around the bolt saying this is what most owners do.

so has anyone done this? does it work? and will it stop my drive train jumping about like a freshly landed fish?

I await your replies as I have new rear axle rubbers to go in and don't fancy spending more time under the car than needs be, so would rather do it all at once.

What's a snub rubber? I assume it's not the large mount at the front of the diff-housing as I had no trouble getting one when mine was shot & the diff was bouncing up against the floor... ???

I've just seen your other post stating Gearbox snub rubbers so know it's not what I was thinking. I assume they're not mount rubbers or you would have said that. I recall a rubber with a shaft going through it on the bottom of my 2000 manual. Is that it?

HI,

WHAT IS A SNUB RUBBER AND WHERE DOES IT GO ?

I HAVE A SPARE GEARBOX AND DIFF . DOES IT ATTACH TO ANY OF THESE ?

IVE NOT BEEN WORKING ON P-SIXES LONG SO SEND ME A PHOTO OF WHERE THE PART GOES OR SEND ME A PM SO I KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR IF I HAVE ONE ILL SEND IT

PETER :D

When we know what it is , would it be why I get judder when pulling away which feels like it comes from the NSR ?

I think (allthough may be wrong) It was only found on the 2000 and 2200 manual cars, its as The Rovering member says a rubber coated shaft that fits through the bottom of the box.

that sounds more like the mount on the rear diff, these can be got easly, Infact just waiting for mine to turn up, I will let you know how eay it was to fit (in my case very as someone else is doing it in exchange for some body work on his car)

These aren't difficult to fit at all once you've got safe access to the underside of the car.

Getting under the P6 is not easy. I've got ramps , stands and trolley jacks but it doesn't go high enough for the "fuller figure"
I'll have a look at my diff mounts at the weekend

The snub rubber (539253) can be found at the back of the manual gearbox in the "housing for speedometer drive".
It's a press-on job. The standard way is to remove the housing and use a hydraulic press to remove and refit. However, you may be able to use a hacksaw to put a couple of slits in the metal part of the bush and pry the thing out. Installing a replacement would be tricky. You may be able to use an industrial sized vice to press one back in place.

When everything is adjusted correctly the metal rod (shaft for rear engine mounting) is not supposed to touch the inside of the rubber.

Perhaps you can save some immediate grief by adjusting the "adjusting screw" on the "support cross member" just behind that bar/snub rubber. It's under tension with the engine tie rod at the front of the engine attached to the front lifting bracket.

When I have centred the snub rubber and shaft, I have loosened the tie rod and the nuts on each engine mount. I then adjusted the above "adjusting screw so that the bar is in the middle of the snub rubber. Then I tightened the front tie rod and finally the engine mounting bolt nuts.

I suppose if new snub rubbers are too hard to find, you might find a knackered gearbox (early OR late) that has an excellent snub rubber. Then you re and re the speedo housing.

Good luck.
