Sleipnir's very early original engine

I'll try that - Was trying to avoid wrecking a petrol can by putting diesel in it but I guess it's worth it - it's only a couple of quid afterall :)

Got some pics of my nada cam when I fist got it, ( somewhere) running on 5 cylinders with 3 missing lobes.
Top speed , about 50mph :p

Ha - this one wasnt that bad... It did 70+ with ease, just took it out because it was ejecting oil out under pressure from every orifice :) The temporary one that's in the car is healthy in this regard too, just very noisy top end and has oil pressure issues despite the high volume pump and having had a good poke around to attempt a fix.

I Moved a couple of them yesterday afternoon. Some are stuck some aren't. I've found a snapped piston ring on the first one that came out...

Bearings all look good so crank may not be in need of work.

Some more undoing this afternoon all being well...

Some pics from this morning

Our stickiest piston I think - Not manage to reach the 2 nuts to undo this one yet.

To my amateur eye these dont look bad?

They look ok to me, I would replace them though as you've got it apart. I remember replacing mine on my old V8, the Monza one, and the shells were just copper. I managed to get them out with the engine in the car, so didn't do anything to the crank, just put new shells in - worked a treat :)

Ok well a few weeks on and the diesel soaking hasnt really helped yet. There i was hammering some wood against it for a change and the head of the hammer flew off. Result is this:

The indentation doesnt go near the bore but does this mean I've just ruined it?

I would say it's ok, its nowhere near the head gasket sealing line, just check with straight edge to make sure as it might need some relieving with a very small fine file.
Clive.

Check it for high spots and dress with a file if needs be. Then get a metal bristled toothbrush and give it a good scrub with acetone, fill it with JB Weld and finish it flat when set.

pics show bearing shells partly 'wiped' light scoring and you have a mass of 'particles 'around . new shells mandatory or false economy. crank surface should be free form scores. DO ensure we have jet washed ( cleaning fluids) oil feed holes in crank bores. any particles left can come loose and cause damage or potential failure later in use. stuck rings /piston can often be released using mix diesel oil and releasing fluid or even petrol. however after couple of days ..if no joy with wood and a mallet? then we may have a partly seized piston to bore situation. in such cases we can try forcing piston out with hydraulic pressure with risk more damage and ruining liner etc or we can drill and chip out piston itself thus allowing skirt and ring to be 'peeled' away from cylinder wall. with luck it can be rehoned and new piston and ring giving a working block assy.

Thanks guys - The ring is definitely seized with the liner. I have been trying heating and cooling too. I'll give the atf a go then next before we go to something more drastic :)

The engine did run like a dog (although I've never heard a dog sound that bad)

before i attack this piston with a power tool.... Where is the piston grading written? If it happens to come out without damaging the liner it'd be good to know what the grade was....
