Silver rectifier in drivers knee bin.

How hot should this get in normal operation ?
I happened to touch this the other day and it was too hot to keep hold of.

Thanks

A rectifier within the context of alternating current is a diode, and there are no diodes within that location. There are two silver canisters that house capacitors and relays for operating the hazard lights and indicators. As to their operating temperature I cannot say, but too hot to keep hold of does not sound normal or indeed safe to me. A good idea would be to replace the culprit with a modern version.

It is the 3AW that concerns me, I thought it was an external rectifier, but I read it controls the ign WL.
It gets really HOT !!

OK so a lot more searching and I found out probably what you all know. Inside the 3AW is a resistor wire that is designed to heat up to operate a bi metallic strip which is a switch for the ign WL. So its not a rectifier ! Its a nasty hot thing in a confined space that's what it is.
Gonna look at a cooler operating alternative.
