Sick Bay again

:| Gertrude is in sick bay again.Having got the timing chain sorted again for the second time in weeks,I went out to her yesterday and it wouldnt start.Well it would initially start up and then splutter and jump for a couple of seconds and cut out again. Will actually tick over momentarily and then conk out again. All leads, plugs points and condenser had been replaced.Only thing not replaced is distributor cap.Trying to find someone who actually knows these cars is a nightmare. If it doesn't plug into something and tell them what's wrong they are flumoxed.

Best thing was I have home breakdown cover with my classic Insurance.Waited for two hours for someone to turn out.He looked at the car scratched his head and said sorry I cant help you mate.Haven't got a clue on these and left. That is despite the fact when you phone up they ask you amongst other things for the vehicle details!!

Okay rant over.Any of you knowledgeable people out there have a clue what could be wrong?

Thank You

condensors can be suspect when new... not sure it sounds like that though.

is the fuel supply good?

Thanks. Will check fuel supply.Didnt try that as I was putting my faith in the breakdown service.Bigga mistaka to maka.

What sort of rotor arm do you have? A lot of the re-manufactured black ones are very suspect. Get a red one from the Distributor Doctor. I'd second the advice about the condenser too.

yeah it is a black one and looks a bit used so I will order that along with a new cap.Ordered new points and condenser as well as you are now the third person to mention condenser.Spoke to a local mechanic and he said that he would not immediately suspect the condenser as the vehicle starts initially but he said a faulty one can throw up all kinds of different problems.
Thanks Tony

Just returned from my holidays and,as yet another mechanic failed to turn up,I decided to have a go myself.New points and condenser fitted and now starts and runs fine :D

Let that be a lesson to you.....

Yeah too right.Got a phone call to say I would be fitted in A.S.A.P as he was busy.Imagine the joy when I told him no need I fixed it myself.Problem with me is that past experience has taught me that sometimes a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing :D
