Its pissing down here in sunny Auckland and the temperature has driven me indoors .
Mrs M has let me have the computer and Ive been searching the planet for brake pads for my 72 P6b 3500.
I was given a warning at my last WOF
So many options for pads.
Im sick of looking and am getting over it.
Help me out . What system will my girl be running - Girling Dunlop or Lockheed.
Front and rear pads needed.
Does anyone have a part number I can quote these brake agents.
Gerald

Hi Gerald,
Your 72 v8 will have girling brakes.
Looking at my 1973 parts book there were several options front and rear, but in the real world they would all be suitable.
I made the front pad number GBP203.
Rear pads GBP204.
These later part numbers were Unipart i think.
Regards,
Clive.

Thanks Clive .So Girling . Good.
I too have those numbers -plus GB151 , 199 and 216 plus GB158 rear .
I guess having the wear sensors gives all the options.

Hi Gerald, im not going to be much help probably, but i worked for repco up until a year ago and got front and rears pads
in TRW brand after converting part numbers.
They were for my 70 s1 3500
i still have the rear pads i think and if they are right ones we could trade for hub caps?

When i have seen pads without wires have still bought them, and used old wiring looms from pads.
Drilled small hole in the pad and araldite wires back in with no probs.
Regards.
Clive.

Clive does that mean when the wires are not shorted to ground (pads worn and wire is free) that the warning light will operate?

The wires have to short to earth to operate the warning light. The handbrake switch acts as a check for the pad warning light system, the low fluid switch operates the same warning light but on a separate circuit.

It doesn't matter if the wire is touching the pad material, it mustn't touch the backing plate though as it could earth through that and put the light on.

See - I knew it, magic .
Rover were quite innovative back in the day . Disc brakes all round and wear wires.

Are the rear pads for a S1 the same for a S2?
Still going to look for those wheel trims for ya by the way.

I think the pad wear indicators were on the 3500s NADAs first in 1969, before our U/K 71 series 2 cars.
Clive.

Thats some good info guys thanks
I understand you can lop off the wires if not needed
Thanks Gerald, ive seen some almond p6b on this forum with 3500s trims and they look good.
I do have some wheel trims that i havent seen anywhere which might be rare.
Ill put up a photo sometime

I have Ford Cortina 3 liter pads in the front of my S2. The pad material is a tad harder, but they work fine.
I had to open the pin hole up a fraction to take the Metric hole out to the Imperial pin size, but otherwise, they are fine.
