I have a 69 2000TC with an AC11 alternator (ex AC car). It has the battery up front and the one in there is on it's last legs. I notice its smaller than the tray and clamp. Any idea what size I should look for?

Hi
The 024 battery seems to be the one that is generally used for both front & rear mounted units.
My 67 TC is like yours so here's the size. The dimensions of mine (which is a good fit in the tray) are 10" x 7" x 7.5"(H).
I got hold of a black cased item 'cos I feel it looks better than the more common white.
Sorry I don't know the code but I stripped off all the makers decals to make it look more '60's!

Thanks smokin, Strangely most batteries here in the states seem to be black still. I'll try and find some time to go and get one now.

I looked up sizes of battery and selected a Bosch for my rear box with as big a capacity as possible .( auto) its about external size. capacity and of course type and location of terminals.

Last time I needed a battery, I came up against the usual "Our computer does not acknowledge a P6 Rover" but Halfords and ARE web-sites both helpfully show battery size and capacity. Found the correct capacity from the manual, and measured the old battery. Then found hat the failed battery had an ARE part No. on it, so got a replacement from stock. Slightly too big for the 3500S battery box, but box can be 'modified to fit.' Th firs battery I was offered (by Halfords) had the terminals reversed, but I think that the leads would have reached. Halfords, very helpfully, showed me the ARE number on the old battery, and sent their battery back into stock.

A Lucas battery Catalogue I have from about 1978 , as that's the latest application date listed , lists the same battery for all P6 models , but noting that a special battery clamp plate for where boot fitting is required ( Lucas 23282714) The batteries listed are either an 084 or 284 . The dimensions are L 240mm, W 175mm & H 217mm . The batteries are listed as 9 plate in a 7 plate case . 68 amp/hr

After all that I did a 10amp charge for a good day and that seemed to revive the current battery. Maybe it cleaned off the plates with the longer aggressive charge? Anyways, seems good now. Also bear in mind I’m in the US and the series I 4 cylinder cars have the battery in the engine bay.

looking for a proper replacement battery and my favourite supplier does not list 084 or 284 , wonder if there was a review of sizes since 1978 ? :D
Not certain my battery the official item because poles are reversed. Mounted under bonnet and positive is nearest headlights with earth lead too short to reach anywhere except rear post. The size 250 looks a good match , but going outside to measure first.
** mine has 078 fitted which is size 243L x 175W x 190H ( 10 x 7 x 7.5 ) - suspect this was result of earth point moving when previous owner replaced panels.
