Series 2 Wiper motor assembly

Hello All,

I'm currently fitting PAS to 'Hazel', my series 1 V8 & have discovered that the series 1 wiper assembly has to go & I will need a series 2 assembly as these are located on the n/s rather than the o/s. Doh!

Has anyone got such an assembly please? I have a motor & indeed can get a new one for around £50 so that's not a problem, but I really need the tube & the attached gear housings for the wiper spindles. I will be happy to pay for such parts.

These assemblies will get scrapped with most cars as they never seem to need replacing in the normal course of events.

Pretty please...:)

Thanks for that Colin - I'll do that if I have to.

Does anyone have a spare series 2 assembly somewhere they're willing to sell...?

I think I have the bits you require but I'm in Oz so i'd guess postage would be between 10 to 20 Pounds. The spindle gearboxes if not the whole lot are available from Holden.co.uk or similar places but they aren't cheap...

I made a new tube for mine out of stainless - I used my brake pipe flaring tool and bender to match the old one - could you not reuse the spindles or, are they completely different? I could dig out a spare set but, Like Mike, I am sure postage would be a few quid.

A complete set would be great guys. I don't need the motor or the cable; just the tube & wheel boxes.

Within reason, the price + postage isn't an issue as I can't seem to get one here in 'Blighty'....

Hi Phil.
Think I've got a spare one in my garage but will have to have a good look as I think the wheel boxes splines are a bit worn.
Clive.

Great guys - many thanks. As long as they work reasonably I'm not bothered as to condition.

The car's off the road until I get something....

Hi Phil.
I think this is going to be serviceable,
what do you think?

Looks good to me Clive. What do you want for it & postage? Shall I PM you with my contact details?
Many thanks for your efforts.
Phil.

Thanks to you guys, the power steering is now fitted - for the ladies in the family of course (but TBH I rather like it, too ;)).

The new wiper motor & assembly fits nicely & after a few problems with wiper reach etc (not all motors advertised as for a 'P6' give sufficient swipe on the screen...beware) I now have an electrical gremlin :(.

My motor works from a battery on both slow & fast & the original plug on the extended loom works correctly via the dashboard switch on both settings, as tested with a voltmeter. However, when I put the plug into the motor's electrical socket (as below), the heater/wiper 35A fuse blows instantly. A disconnected battery whilst plugging in makes no difference.

I'm clearly no expert on the electrics, but this is a peculiar one surely...?

This fault has been traced to a slight winding issue with the replacement motor which has now been cured.

Having connected everything up & tried the wipers out, everything works well, except the wipers park at the wrong end of their travel.... Some things just don't go well. Is it just a case of swapping some wires over, or is it much more complicated?

Thanks Colin - you're spot on! I realised when I looked back at this thread that my mate had put them upside down in order to get the 'new' motor (incorrectly stated as for a P6) to work.

It now works just as it should!

Just to report back that Hazel's power steering is truly fab! :) (I must be getting old....).

I wasn't keen on putting it on at first, but I wish I'd done it years ago. Not many Ser 1 V8s with it, I suppose. I would recommend doing it to anyone wondering.
