I am considering dismantling my Bonnet Badge to refurbish.

Does anybody know the colour code for the red on the ship's sails.

Any suggestions re the project would be helpful.

I did one once.
Carefully pulled it apart, cleaned it all up.
Started painting the inside with a tiny hobby brush AND bang.
The whole plastic shell exploded - well cracked apart in various places.
Must have had a paint/ plastic reaction.
Disappointing.

Yes, aged plastics tend to micro crack and its not visible to the naked eye.
If you use any solvent based paints you could be in for a nasty surprise as Gerald found out.
I doubt there is any way to stabilise the plastic safely.

A water based paint? but even then the water may find those cracks.

Maybe an artists acrylic paint would be safer??

A nice new badge would be best but that project and its outcomes seem to have stalled in production, a quick search on the site here will tell you all you need to know.
Possibly eBay for a NOS but expect to mortgage your soul house and kidneys.
