Series 1 2000 TC gearshift plate question

Im replacing the acorn and spherical seat on my series 1 2000 TC. Before unbolting everything I have noticed that if I move gearlever to 1st, 2nd gear side, the right side of the gearshift plate lifts. Looking at the workshop manual, the left top plate secures to the tie bracket. And the right top plate only secures to the support plate, not the vehicle body?
So this lifting is normal?
Also, should the spherical seat be greased, and if so what is recommended?
Thanks!

Book shows the support plate on the RHS should be bolted to the base unit, with some rubber cushioning - 2 different plates shown, one with captive bolts, one without. If these bolts were loose, the front fixing of the stay bar would allow it to rotate a little because its a horizontal bolt. Have you lifted the tunnel finisher etc?
