Selector shaft

Hello yet again
still looking at the sloppy gear change, would anybody have a picture of the selector shaft and where the bushes fit
the one on the gear lever itself is fine so I’m suspecting the shaft bushes have come loose ?.
thanks Paul

Hello Paul, I'm doing the same thing at the moment. Stick your phone torch into the hole and have a look. I'm no expert but I think it's model dependent. If there is a bush there, mine had disappeared completely. Rubbery dirt/dust in that area might be a clue.
I have been told that the bush for mine is 90622363-POLY at Wins. Again, I'm no expert, so don't quote me, but I'm ordering both bushes this week, and even if your Nylon seat bush looks Ok, which mine does also, apparently it still might be failing.

Hi
sadly I ordered the bush to fit the metal acorn
it wouldnt fit no way no how, it looks like on my car no bush is required.
the one on the gear lever is fine, so I’m going for the selector shaft bushes
which I believe there are two,
also the bushes that fit the selector shaft housing to the gear box
but how the hell You get to them I don’t know !
which is why I was hoping someone had some idea.
the repair manual doesn’t even mention selector shafts for the manual car
I hope you can sort yours out
wish me luck
regards paul

Section D, Page 6D of the workshop manual, has an exploded view.
Oh yes those ones. There is a post here detailing that job. Sorry you will have to search, can't remember which one.

Refering to above diagram:
Sloppy gear change is normally due to part 45 breaking up. You can get new ones for not much. and changing it is easier than trying to work on the rest of the system. Note that the actual gear stick does NOT have a seperate component for the bottom end. It is however replacable as the 'Acorn' or by a short hardish piece of hose/pipe should it have broken up or worn out.

Check part 57 is also tightly attached as its the reaction member for the gearstick pivot. Note parts 66 -69 need to be in decent shape too as they are there to allow some movement between box and car. Too tight it'll jump out of gear, too loose and it won't shift consistently. The rear bolts move in slots to adjust the neutral position of the lever.

Avoid undoing part 37 as getting it lined up again is a frustrating PITA.
