Selector rod bushes

Timely, my bushes arrived yesterday, my SD1 guy is doing them for me. Booking it in tomorrow. Hopefully that's them all, my gear selection is a bit dreadful.

When I did my gearbox change and was watching for the offside head to NOT rest on the reserve tap, I found there was a pocket in the chassis where I placed something like a spark plug socket that would hold the head clear of the reserve tap.

Good idea.
I used to turn the engine fan until the widest point was at the bottom, that meant one blade was upright, and this would foul the fan shroud and stop the engine dropping right back. Providing it had a mechanical fan.

I once put new plugs in a P2 6cyl, and heard funny gas noises. One of the plugs was leaking around the insulator, visible gas stains. Took quite an argument to get the supplier to replace it.

It's just back from having the selector rod bushes done. The mechanic found that Part No. 594256 was previously cut in half, welded and ground, and is a complete mess. I'll post the photo he took later on. In the meantime, should there be a plastic "acorn" on this part too?

This is the Part (image borrowed from previous page for now.) 1.jpeg

The 'acorn' goes on the end of the gear lever. That part (selector peg?) should have a nylon cap on it, but rare and I think unobtainable. See if you can find something to go on the end that will just fit in the selector slot , or braze and file back till it fits.

Yes I have the acorn on the lever jp, I thought there might be another for that part, and the mechanic agreed that there should be "something" there.

Aha. There are two types, early and late. Mine's '77 so I'm guessing this one might do the trick. J R Wadhams Ltd | Selector rod finger late
