Screen out, what's next

What are the must do jobs whilst the windscreen is out ?
The ones that as soon as it is back in you go................. bugger !

Thanks guys
Sometimes you get 'snow blind' and miss the obvious things. I winkled it out without taking off the side trims, the top trim came off with the rubber.
I will take the sides off to re fit.
Good call on the rot, early on I wax injected the screen pillars from the bottom, yesterday I spied a handy hole inside at the top, so will get some wax down there and along the front of the roof.
I am grateful to lockdown as the new screen has been with me for 18 months, I have not been looking forward to this at all !
So far all good, the screen channel is unblemished and pristine with factory fresh paint all round.
I really cannot decide whether to fit a new rubber or not..................

The foam seal between the lower part of the screen and the body tends to rot away, might be worth while checking/replacing that.

Thanks Richard.
It is in quite good nick, but is a bit crispy. I have some neoprene strip, but not in the ideal size. I will have a hunt round and see if I can make a new one up from bits n bobs that I have.

If you've got a heater box in your P6, I would give that the 'once over' whilst the decker panel is off.

I got the side trims off now, the pillars are pristine, this car just keeps on giving :)

Now going to treat and paint the bottom seal carrier.

Thanks.
I have decided the heater is not going to be changed this time. I have one ready to go in with a new matrix. I have gotten used to taking that front panel off now so it holds no fear, and will come off with the bonnet on no problem.

Cheers

That foam strip at the bottom of the screen plays a surprisingly big part in keeping engine noise out of the cabin. Mine had disintegrated so I used two metres of this:

Woolies Trim - Self Adhesive Black Sponge Strip

Did the job very well. Woolies are still operating on mail order during the crisis.
Cheers for the link.
I may have equivalent lying about.
The side exit exhausts kinda drown out anything coming from the front :)

Fitted some 10mm D section neoprene foam in the end for the lower seal. Screen back in yesterday with old rubber, nerve wracking for a first timer but all good in the end. Tried offering up new rubber pressing tight into top corner, sadly it would not cover the top corner trim, even the old rubber has very little cover there.
Measured the flaps on both seals with a steel rule, the new rubber is a couple of mm shy of the old. New lower 'gutter' rubber was different shape to old so reinstalled old.

I have a foam strip from Scotts, 367293, but my car is a suffix D, which the book says should use 372373. This strip is shaped like an armchair in section, with a curved backrest tacked onto a square. No idea how this should be fitted - backrest (long side) down on bodywork sort of makes ense, but does the backrest point up towards top of screen, or down ? Or is that completely wrong ? Old foam crumbled into dust as soon as it was poked at.
thanks

With the back rest down it would maybe form less of a debris trap ? As the foam is below the front decker panel and cannot be seen I don't suppose it makes much odds. As long as it fills the void between screen and body.
You are bound to find out which way it goes as soon as you have finished the job

Hi, It curls up so that it forms a 'gutter' to direct the water down the screen off to the sides.

Colin - talking about the foam UNDER the glass, not the water deflector rubber above the glass.
