SCAM Warning

I received a threatening e-mail referencing the password which I had used on this site, now changed.

It suggested that my lurid online sexual activity of the past 154 days would be exposed if I did not deposit $2000 in bit coin to 15E1TKsav65ej*tyxFcGj5tVTFuCGYQ13JZ

At my age it is probably something I would like to see, but it would be purely imaginary.

Not sure if the site has been compromised in some way.

Be safe and well

Mike

The purpose of posting was to alert others.
I had no intention of doing anything other than deleting the email and alerting authorities, done before posting here.
Ban's password recommendations are valid and I imagine followed by almost everyone.

Take care

Ok. It's not a forum issue. These are people that have had their passwords compromised by data leaks. Anyone can spoof the source of an email.

Check this site out for how. Will also tell you if your information has been stolen

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

Passwords for the forum are rainbow hashed with salt so noone should worry about us from that point of view. it would take days to hack a single password, and that is better than most sites.

Hope that helps. Any concerns just pm me and I can help if you need.

I was going to ask for a link to the sites concerned, but thought it might be too risque, glad to see you are on to it already Richard, are they any good ?

Thanks Rich, that is reassuring .
Had assumed it was from here because of the unique password I have for this site.

We’ve all got the email. There is a site called https://haveibeenpwned.com/ that you can check against your email to see if you’ve been the victim of a data breach.
Also, cover or unplug your webcam when you don’t need it, especially when visiting porn sites :).

The database isnt on the internet - firewalled and only accessible from the webserver itself, so i cant see a way that it could be possible. In the meantime I suggest you change your password.
