That's been up for sale for ages, there and on ebay, and has been featured on here too, so it's obviously far too expensive or it would have sold by now.
Absolutely! Totally do-able. It looks to be fairly solid where it counts and all the bits are there. It's only held together with spot welds and pop rivets after all.
The saddest thing is, I found this pic whilst trawling the web looking for Estates. Wonder when it was taken? Anyone know?
Can't say for sure having never owned one but judging by the distinct 'fold' along the side it is one piece, and possibly a little bit higher than the usual gently curved roof panel. Someone will correct me if I have erred.
It is a handbuilt roof. They start with the frame from the original roof with the skin detached, cut the back off and extend the sides. The sides are made from several pieces of aluminium, riveted to the frame and with a folded step on top, then a single sheet of aluminium is layed on top and riveted to the sides. Then the roof is screwed on to the car as per original and then riveted across the back where it meets the tailgate.
This shows the roof panel, minus vinyl. The foam is still on but you can see the join where the top meets the side and the holes across the back for the rivets.
This slighly fuzzy pic shows the underside of the Right front corner of the roof panel. The rusty original frame is quite obvious and you can see the top to side panel rivets.
