Save a V8!

Hi All,

We have a v8 which urgently needs rescuing before the council find it on wirral/deeside. The underside should be in pretty good nick as it's been stored in a good garage for years since it's been taken off the road about 20 years ago.

The gent concerned is a childhood friend of my father's and he has great memories of it.

Bad points - brakes seized, rear wings rough and the gearbox is locked in park.

Contact me asap and I'll call the gent concerned to sort. It has to go to someone who'll attempt a rescue rather than stripping it though.

I really wish i had space as i'd have this. Shiply shouldnt cost much to get this to most places.

were going to see this today. think dads going to have it. will post pictures later....

If we arrive and wanted to free off the gearbox into neutral so i can be pushed does anybody know how we'd do it? It's a 74 so i guess it would be a BW65 box?

Thanks,

Rich.

good thinking. I'll try operating the lever on the box first and if that doesnt work drop the prop off. perfect :)

74 on an "N" will be a 65, 74 on an "M" could be either. Disconnecting the pin on the selector lever on the box is a lot easier than disconnecting the prop.

Well the car is really solid. Rear wings a little rough and it's stuck in park. Couldnt really get under it where it was beyond prodding the sills. Nice black cloth interior with electric windows. My dad's having it...:)

well we've found a shiply shipper who will get the prop off/take the gear cable off depending on which he can do. we couldnt get under the car on sunday.

So just waiting now!

Surely, jacking the car up and putting it on some wheel trolley's would be much easier? To get it out of the garage at least. I suppose there is the problem of then getting the car onto the truck, but if the brakes are seized on (assuming they are) then it wouldn't make much difference, would it?

Just wondering, Adam.

Yep it's already on the street that way hence the hurry now. The brakes were all left off apparently so hopefully it'll move once the box is not in park or not connected...

This car arrived at my mum and dads house after dark last night. Will update you all with some photos later today. The previous owner was that keen we save it that he has put cash in the kitty to help get it moved. He'll certainly be having a ride in this once it's back running under it's own steam :)

initial look suggests for the MOT we'll be looking at rear brakes, battery, 4 tyres, and change all fluids. I'm sure there will be other bits crop up but that's part of the adventure :) One of the rear wings is very poor but i have a stash of plastic ones, and know where there's a good metal one.

it's at my mum and dads house awaiting my attention. There's a thread somewhere called KTU...

Don't look in for a few days and miss an opportunity like this!!!

Would've been there with spanners and a trailer if I'd seen it. Ah well...
