Sainsbury's car park

I have been accosted by numerous P6 enthusiasts ( or their male partners,) in my local Sainsburys car park than anywhere else I have parked my 3600S. Normally favourable comments. But yesterday I had a strange encounter. Stopped by someone who insisted he knew another owner, but he insisted that my car was a "P1". As it was bitterly cold and starting to snow, I did not have too much patience with him and just, rather brusquely informed him it was not a P1 but a p6, and retreated to the warmth of the store. I am not too knowledgeable on earlier Rovers, but has anyone ever had theri P6 mistaken a P1 before?
I can identify a P5, P4 and P3, but hat is a P1? Must be from the early days of Rover cycles and sewing machines?

Here in the states I get asked about my Volvo! Had one guy who told me I had a propshaft carrier bearing and when I said it didn’t he asked “Have you ever been under the car?” This was after I’d told him I’d rebuilt the gearbox, engine, suspension and brakes.

That happens here in Germany too. I was asked if it was a Wartburg. Not many people here know what a P6 is. I live in Saarland, where there are lots of classic cars, but so far I've only seen one other P6.

It seems to be only at Sainsburys I have Waitrose and Morrisons near me and visit them occasionally, but never any interest in my Rover.
I have googled Rover P1 and do not see any resemblance to my P6. What a shame that Rover are not making advanced cars any more. I think I am lucky to have the chance to drive my P6 today.

Mike; My typo, the car is a 3500S, but an early one, K reg. However, my expert was quite adamant it was a P1, claiming he had a friend who had a P1.. He dismissed my protest that the car was P6. It was too cold the stand about arguing with such an 'expert'
