My P6 self drove over a small retaining wall today.
No damage on retrieval by two capable woman towies.
Lost my exhaust -thats all .And my dignity.
The pics show the extremes of travel on the dedion rear system

Glad nobody was hurt.

It is a bit embarrassing when this sort of thing happens, or you break down in a classic. All I can say is that it happens with moderns too!

So this explains why moderns cannot touch it in terms of ride comfort. This extend of suspension travel would put most SUVs to shame, no matter ordinary saloons.
Glad no nobody was hurt through the incident!

Im into 'the next day" now .
Had a good sleep and woken up wondering how the hell she released herself well after an hour after being parked at the top of a very steep driveway .
Steering was locked as the keys were removed . Being sunday , kids are in the street and cars parked along the road side.
In her movement she missed two letter boxes and the above mentioned before staddling a 400mm high retaining wall.
So grateful no other scenarios played out.
A neighbour saw the whole escape and reckons P6 was doing 35km by the time she launched the wall.
Drove home -very noisy and fumey.
Off to a mechanic and get her under body checked for damage.

wow that is one good looking car Gerald, is it all mended now? have you got any interior shots of it? have you taken it out on any major runs lately?

shocking episode , as you say merciful no other scenarios played out

Wow
Was the handbrake leaver fully down on your return?
Like it had just dropped or did the weight of the car just suddenly over ride the handbrake ?
You have just reminded me that I must buy some wheel chocks for mine for when I park on a hill, sorry to hear about the damage from the looks of things you might have good off lightly
Best wishes

Hi Ban306
-handbrake was partialy on which held the car whilst in Park.
Over the period of an hour the spherical bush at the base of the gear lever dropped out in pieces. It must have cooled down and shattered onto the ground. The gear lever dropped out of park and so started the slow roll down the drive.
Moral of story : if your gear lever has too much play .Check that spherical bush.

That's why the IAM and Rospa in UK advanced driving courses advise securely applying the park brake when quitting the vehicle and not just rely on the pawl in the gearbox.

Odd headrests!? Digging those seats. Are they leather or Ambla? I like the perforated material on the pleated section.

I was trying out a set of ET headrests as per the original teardrops . I went with the teardrop.
Seats are ambla. I chose these as I originaly had the car in a hot climate [NW Australia] and thought the leather would get a beating. Proved to be a good decision as the seats are still in perfect after 47yrs. Sundym glass helped too.

Im one of these guys that learns the hard way !!!

That is crazy like a freak accident everything just come together at once,
Absolutely loving the Red interior you have there, Whats going on with the whole wood surround?
It is very nice mine is very dark but looking at what you have achieved there maybe you should have been on the P6 design team I think its a vast improvement.

Hi
.I was really disappointed Rover P6 livery Dept. went down the Formica road so decided to fiddle with it.
The door cappings are burr walnut veneer the same thickness as the Formica , and glued onto aluminium strips so as to fit in the channel. Two-pot lacquer over the top. Liked it . Went on and did the dash capping. The central console was a disaster so slapped on some vinyl wrap in the meantime. A lot easier using the wrap - so will get a burr walnut match and redo it. Work in progress so to say .Just need a round-to-it.
