Rubber grommet to secure gearshift selector knob...?

is there anything else holding the knob on? Mine has turned to black goo and the knob came off in my hand...where to get a replacement?

No, nothing else. Try fleabay or the specialists over here. Actually, Scott of Old Rubber could maybe help you out as he's had a few Rover's over the years.

Cheers, I tried Scotts and got a succinct answer of no, they don't do them anymore. Am I right it's part number 267721 or is it 576643?

Does it have 'proper' name I could use to narrow my search?

No luck at wadhams or mgparts on their pages....

When replacing the gear knob rubber bush/grommet/tube , support the gear lever as you push/screw down the knob.
The nylon spherical bush at the base of the gear lever may crack and fall out as it deteriorates with age.
I cant prove its happened but Ive gone through two spherical bushes and it seems to coincide with replacing the gear knob rubber grommet.
