Roy Pierpoint

Lifted from the pages of the British Racing Driver's Club website, whom I hope won't mind:

"Roy’s last successes came with the works-developed Rover P6B which he shared with Roger Enever and Clive Baker in the 1970 Nurburgring 86 Hours. After 15 hours, the blue car was three laps ahead of the Porsche opposition only to develop a prop shaft vibration of such severity that it had to be withdrawn. Roy raced the red sister car in various special saloon club events in 1970, winning at Castle Combe, Silverstone, Mallory Park and Brands Hatch.
An affable, amiable personality, Roy ... epitomised the best type of accomplished amateur who could be highly competitive against Formula 1 drivers in touring cars whilst enjoying his racing to the full."

Godspeed.

PS Great pic, @cobraboy. Is that from the 'RIng? Do you think the bonnet is set up to be slightly open at the front and sides to help cool things under there? Looks as if it is about to hit the roof and take out the windscreen!!

That pic is indeed from the 1970 Marathon de la route. I do not know if Roy is the driver.
I also do not know whether the bonnet is elevated to help cooling, or if the latch popped and it is only retained by the safety catch.

When I completed my blue car I spoke with Roy, he was very kind with his time, he could remember the Rover well. I would have loved to visit him in the car, but it was not to be.

Last year at the Silverstone Classic I met Dave Brodie and showed him a Picture of my Rover, He looked at me, his eyes wide and said 'that bloody Rover' !!!!!!! he laughed and laughed, Pierpoint and that bloody Rover were a nightmare he said.

Welcome « David Brodie

Bonnet pin has failed in this shot.
