Rover P6 renewing project after 42 years barn live.

With water pump bolts I always run a thread chaser into the block holes to clean out corrosion - NOT a tap, a proper chaser. And use anti-seize - not fun to break these bolts.

This car has a rotten corner of the roof, is the rail then also damaged? I do now roof can be changed for a other one.

Idea was buy another V8 extra for daily drive, not to expensive, max 1500 euros.
What are the most important hidden places for rust damages.

Car is from 1971 but was then already the dashboard modernized?.

Use cap head bolts with a spring washer. Easy to get an Allen key in there on that back corner!

That is a good idea however I can not buy these bolds here because of the english thread on it, I have to
get them then from your country.

Can you tighten these enough that way?

I have to weld also the three holes in the cast iron, I have drill them not right, because of the broken pin who was quite hard.

I have buy special electrodes for cast iron for this.

what paint did you use? nice that gray.

Will that work.

For the UNF and UNC screws and bolts, try McMaster-Carr in the US, excellent service and quality. I’ve used them professionally for 25+ years and they’ve always been great.

For rust areas to check (assuming you’re asking about areas other the roof). The base of the D pillar is a well known one. Open the back doors and check the painted area in the bottom corner for rust breaking though. Lift the rear seat bases and check under for rust too. Both of these areas are structural and fiddly to repair.

As for the round dials, yes, I believe they were on V8’s and TCs from 71 on. The SCs kept the strip speedo.

Someone now where this belongs? Is coming from somewhere around the gearbox while I did remove the remote plate.
it is little worn on one side so something did move on it.

I try to not have to do it over as I did need it on a place not reachable after the rest is done.

I am happy I am not the rubbers for the remote, are pressed down quite brutal.

thanks.

Thanks Sdibbers for your help.

Mine V8 S is very good preserved, just 3 little holes easy to fix..

Oke the car is on this moment reserved because someone go to look at it, but I was already worried about the roof damage because of rust who is quite sure extented to the sides with the black vinyl, there rust is quite common.

I can buy also this one, 3500 euros, with a fresh MOT and that is the last one also.

It looks very nice I think this prise is not to much.

I seek one to use as a daily car, next to the V8 3500.

PS the bold of the question couple post ago, it is for the excaust pipe.

regards

using these and order from usa is expensive, I can get them here if I now the tread dimensions.

One question remains, how do you tighten them because it is cold to cilinderhead without a gasked?

it needs 2 kg or so, and then heat the engine and scheck. aluminium and cast iron is not frienly to each other.

I have gaskets, I think I go to use them.
