Rover P6 Rear Panels

Hi There, first let me wish all of my English friends on the forum all the very best with the Covid 19 lockdown. In Australia, where it's not as severe, we're all very worried about you and wish you the best.

This is the first of three posts on my P6. I want to spruce it up and one thing which has always concerned me is how the rear guard sit out from the rear doors at the bottom. Pictures attached. Is this common? Is this the job for a body shop or is it adjustable. I believe the rear guards hang on fairly loosley with bolts? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Best John

Also in Oz! Your rear guard looks suspiciously like the D post has been pushed out to clear a non std wheel-tyre combination. Do a search on "d post"? Some posts on this say if the guard is pushed out it can be readily pushed back in, but still leave the support underneath clear of the tyre.....IIRC?

I will do this. It's certainly not running on fat tyres but could well have done in the past. Where in Oz are you?

I'm looking for D Post's on line, they appear structural. Is this something a home mechanic could do? I was hoping the outer panel could be adjusted...Perhaps I'm missing something?

Others write of using a scissor jack between the D post and the inner panel...there is even a picture somewhere. Check the look of the guard fixings with the door open, may give you a clue.
I am in Melbourne. Have had several TCs years ago, now sweating on getting my hands on the 74 p6b 4 speed, held by the lockdown....

I have the car lined up, just waiting for some parts to come for a RWC, and will pick it up....74 manual, out of the Canberra collection that went to auction last year.

Open the rear door and look back inside the rear wing, you'll see the two bolts that hold the front end of the wing onto the D post. To adjust these, you can add/remove shims from these bolts, so if you have any on the lower one, just take it out, do the bolt up and see if that helps.

If there aren't any shims, you have a problem :)

I managed to weld in a new D post and didn't find it too trick as a newbie welder. Careful measuring and cutting is the key..
