Rover P6 Heater Box Wanted (Series II 1974 V8 Auto)

Just in the process of "freshening up" my P6 as it has been off the road for a while. Took off the scuttle and removed the heater box so I could paint behind it as I have sprayed the engine bay. To my horror there is nothing left of the heater box where it meets the firewall.

I know they are pretty rare, so I am not holding out much hope. Worst case I will have to get busy with the sheet metal and the welder. But it is pretty far gone.

I've got most of a partially stripped one, as I've been making one from two..
Intriguing! Us Rover owners are an odd bunch, you wouldn't hear that from the BMW crowd my younger brother hangs around with.

I suppose the thing to ask would be, what exactly is missing?

I have a complete heater box myself, granted a significant portion of it is inside a vacuum cleaner.

At a minimum I would need the panel that wraps around the back and makes contact with the body of the car.

Considering how rare they are, I have sat down and stared intently at mine. Figured I could make the side panels by hammer forming them around wood, the part that meets the firewall that is rotted away could be made using an angle grinder, circular cutter and a sheet metal brake. But it would mean a lot of work. My alternative is to carefully chop out the rot, and weld in new steel, then cut and shape that.

Really people should start making these!

There was a lady on here who used to rebuild them, I think her name was Alex. I don't know what sort of damage she could repair though.

That would be TOO easy. Pulling it apart and changing out the foam, motor bearings and brushes, cleaning out the matrix or replacing it, painting the box etc would be a nice evening project. As it is, I may end up going for the extreme option. Metal fabrication! Although I wanted to avoid it.

Oops I didn't include the tag line. I received it from a third party...

"If you have questions about the parts or didn’t find the part you where looking for send me a pm or give me a call on +31630887900 "

I've no idea of the original source

Alex rebuilds them every now and then..

I'll take some pictures of what I have when I'm next in the shed, as I need to think about putting one back together.
