Rover P6 Design Review on Auto-didakt website

I was never aware that four cylinder P6s had power steering, or different gear ratios, and I could never understand why overdrive was never offered. But the P6 was a victim of it's own success wasn't it? Why bring in changes when you're selling all you can make? What would have happened if it had been a success in the USA, how could they have increased production?

No they didn't have power steering

Gear ratios were found on the rally gearboxes

Overdrive wasn't offered as they couldn't sort the vibration issues

As for increasing production; they did. They built locally in New Zealand for the Aust/NZ market for example. However, that still relied on base units being built in the UK and then shipped across.

Yes and they made some in Malta, but that production, as in Australian, New Zealand, and South Africa was because those markets had stringent import restrictions to encourage local production and the parts all came from Solihull, as you say.

Does anyone out there know anyone who owned a 2000S? Or even just if there are any more pictures than those in James Taylor's excellent book?

Yes, and yes there are more pictures.. can't put everything in a book, unless you want to make it three times the size.

I might do a small article for the P6ROC magazine, and include some pictures of the 2000S's on test.

That would be great, thank you.
