Rover p6 brake servo

I bought a rebuild kit from Ian at Rover Classics for my recent servo rebuild, wasn't too bad a job but if you're not sure don't take any chances, also you really need two people for the bleeding process.
Depending on where you are located there may be a workshop nearby that can do the job for you otherwise. Oh, and also make sure the rear calipers aren't leaking from the seals, takes a while for the signs to show but eventually you'll end up with a nice puddle of fluid underneath when the dustcovers are full of fluid

To check whether the servo is the problem, remove the hose to the inlet manifold - a straight pull, it should come out complete with the plastic widget leaving a bare vacuum case. Then you should be able to poke a finger or a dipstick into the vacuum tank. If the source of leakage is the servo it should be very obviously full of hydraulic fluid. If not, or you don't find enough to be convinced, then the likely culprit is the rear caliper seals, which are capable of leaking into the enclosed area that houses the adjuster and handbrake mechanism without it showing as drips on the floor.

Best bet with either is to fit service exchange that have been rebuilt with stainless steel sleeves to the cylinder bores. Obvious first port of calls for thesae are Wynn's or Rover-Classics.

Wanted a servo , for a 2000 p6 1971, think the seals have gone , losing brake fluid.

Thanks Ron.

If it's the same as the one from a '67 SC, I've got one in the shed. Rebuilt it fully about 10 years ago, and it's done about 10,000 miles in the car since before I stripped the car out last xmas. Still in good condition, if I can find it..

Send me a PM if you're interested as it's only taking up space
