Rover P6 4.6 V8 Road/Race car.

My guess then is something broken on the gearbox input shaft. See what bits come out when you drain the oil and that might give you a clue as to what it is.

Will a Borg Warner T5 from a TVR fit? Stronger than an R380 and already bolts to the Rover V8

Another 4 speed is now in place. Not the best box I have come across! But ah well it will get me out of a rut for now :)

You can get conversion kits and I am sure it has been done plenty of times but what makes me hold back is that the T5 is expensive for what you get - only rated at 300ft/lbs...that isn't enough - I have heard of a 'Z' T5 which is rated at 330ft/lbs which is a bit better but even so...you pay a lot of money for those.

nice thread and build car is a credit to to you, i'm loving the side exits can i ask are you just using a strait through pipe from manifolds and a silencer just before it exits? is the noise intrusive whilst driving? regards wayne

Thanks :)

At one point I had a straight pipe an crikey that was loud but it was only ever going to be a bit of fun. Then added a silencer on each bank from a VW Polo - was OK but still a bit much. Now I have added another silencer from a Nissan (if I recall correctly) on each bank and that seems about right to me now. I would do it very differently if I was to start from scratch - but that's what tends to happen when things evolve from one thing to another (just a bit of fun to having it as a daily drive+fun)

Hello. The P6 is sadly sold but thankfully to a chap who seems to be enthusiastic about the P6 and the Rover V8 in general and is not afraid in the slightest of modifications. I have pointed him to this thread and he is gradually reading through.

Thanks to everyone that has had discussions with me over the years and the general welcome I have had from the P6 community - it is unlike any other I have been involved in. I will be sticking around and perhaps one day I may come to own another P6.

I know you will own another Rover one day Alex. Once a Rover is in your blood, it is there for keeps ;)

All the best,
Ron.

I too was enjoying your thread . Good luck with the future and will see you back here with another P6.

stick around on here still though - you've got some valuable experience over the last year or two :) And we have to have a way to tempt you back ...

Thank you for the kind comments. I will be sticking around. Miss it already, massively. I may be pestering owners to let me have rides!
