The owner was transferred here for his work from Emsworth srea and shipped the car over and invested in a lot of parts before hand. Thank goodness he did. His Name is Doug. I'm Jim. I'll post a couple pics of the car and some numbers. If you know if the car or anything about it please let me know at fedcourtdawg@hotmail.com.

Hi Dawg. Nice car and great that you are aiming to bring it back to life. Tip my hat to you for that.

I don't know your car, but you can check a bit of its history using the UK government web site here:

Just enter the registration YFJ 468...it then says grey rover...confirm that and it gives you a little bit of info which your vendor probably already provided. In short, Grey Rover 2625cc petrol, first registered September 1959, currently registered as off the road (SORN), last log book issued 27 May 2021.

From the registration mark YFJ you should be able to tell where in the UK it was first registered...do a little on-line search for that if interested.

Thanks for the info and help. Only thing that wasn't correct was the color. It says gray but it's green but I'm guessing it's had a respray. I don't think that any owed taxes will make a difference here in the states. As long as I lay the sales tax and state and county taxes I'll be ok.

Looks greyish in the photos...DVLA are known for not being too hot on exact colour classifications. Grey green could be classed either way. So it may have had a respray, but not necessarily a colour change. It is still possible that the paint is original though.

Your car, a Rover 100, was originally registered in Leeds. It last had an MoT test that expired in October 2009 with a recorded mileage at that time of 46,325. Vehicles over 40 years old are exempt from road tax and no longer required to have an annual MoT test in the UK.

Is that your flat top T-bird in the background? Now that's a boulevardier's car!

It's the dealer that fills in the details at first registration not the DVLA. Not that they were around in 1959. ;)

Has the car been permanently exported from the UK? This must be done if it going overseas for over 12 months.

The registration number YFJ was NOT a Leeds number. It was a Devon (county) number, issued by the Exeter registration office. YFJ was issued from June 1959 until end of Nov. 1959. The Exeter office covered most of the county of Devon (S. West England), other than the city of Plymouth which had its own numbers. Therefore, the car could have been supplied by any Rover dealer in the county, not necessarily just Exeter.

There were three grey colours in 1959, Dove Grey (it's not that, which is much lighter), Light Grey and Smoke Grey. The photo colour looks grey to me and could be Smoke Grey.

I see that it's a 100 model; these were announced at the Sept UK Motor Show for the 1960 model year, so yours, being registered in Sept. 1959, must be one of the first 100s produced; the chassis number will show how early.

They were the first models to use the revised 6-cyl engine, a short-stroke version of the newly-announced 7-bearing 3-litre engine. Also, the first P4s with disc front brakes. The individual front seats were an optional extra.

Bedford Garage, Exeter, were Rover dealers in 1959/60, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they supplied it, but it's a possibility.

Eta. looking at the front number plate, it could well be the original one.

Kithead trust shows that the Devon Archives still have some records. They may be able to advise which garage registered the vehicle .
