Rover 3500S from Austria

Dear Community.

A few days ago i took the leather interior away and left the junker at its place. I made a thread with pics ROVER P6 3500 1973 to cannibalize + Rover 2000 TC with nice history in INNSBRUCK / AUSTRIA if someone is interested, i could arrange a contact.

Rover_ibk (10).jpg
It took me almost 5 hours to remove all the seats, panels and interior parts i needed.
Now i have a complete leather interior, a original steering wheel and a classic 70s Radio.

Work goes on...

Dear Forum Members

First, i want to wish you all a healthy and succesful year 2017!

Work on the rover goes on slowly,
i had to care about some rust on the d-posts, and removed my interior and did new cables...

May you could help me with some decisions and tell me your thinkings?

I`m not sure about my prefered color scheme and wheel choice.

1.) Interior
My plan was to restore (what i already did) and dye the flat pleat buckskin leather and make the whole interior black with a black carpet.
This would look perfect with the paprika outside but i`m not sure if the little rover room inside get`s to dark.
The dash, the middle console everything is black and i`m not sure this looks good.
I already bought the colour and all the things i need but i could still change the dealer told me.

My buckskin is almost like ivory after cleaning and looks to light to me, but i found a lot picture of a little darker and more brown tan.
Maybe this combines not as good to paprika as the black but the whole interior looks more friendly, lighter and the flat pleat seats look more classic. The middle console and the dashboard in black are more delighted.

What do you think?

2.) Wheels
On the one hand the muscular and wide look of damains deep dish cragar looks very attractive. I want my p6 to get its wheels a little bit out of the arches, to have it look more muscular.
A little work on the d-post area is okay for me...
I`m not sure to keep 14" 185 but on wider 6.5 wheels or go to 15" and get 195 wheels on 7"? or even 205???
The car should still be able to go around corners.

I love the rostyle design, but they offsets still hide the wheels deep in the arches.
I`m in contact with image wheels company and thinking of builind my own wheels with a classic design but a little more deep dish look.

they have some really nice designs there.
i have to favorites. One is a wire wheels design with fake center spinner which will be available in 14" and 15" in a few weeks.
dbw-polished-rim-500x500.jpg
Or some ford gt40, 6 spoke design. I would keep all the wheel black, and only the spokes and the rim in polished alloy to have them look like rostyles. They are also available with fake center spinner.
image-wheels-brm6-17.jpg
unfortunatly all rostyle designs like buick wheels, magnum500, cragar, american racing etc... dont offer pcd 5x5 or cant be made in the correct offset.

image also offers a rostyle design, but i dont like the little spokes between the main ones. it remindes me of my mgb gt wheels i had.

Paprika and black is a stunning combination, especially boxpleat. Very very 70s. As you aren't afraid to go non-original, a "Paprika" carpet would look amazing and lighten the whole interior.

The car in Innsbruck was much worse than it looked too due to the repairs. The rear sills under the seats had been fibreglassed, so no great loss. Did you see the 2200TC in the garage?

i have Jensen Interceptor alloy wheels for the summer on my rover P5B and have seen pictures of a P6 fitted with these. In winter i have a set of painted Rostyles

I have Sandlewood interior and I am thinking of having black seats and leaving the rest Sandlewood so it does not go too dark inside.

I've changed to an all black interior, although I don't yet have the carpet. My interior is not all standard though and the theme is polished aluminium, chrome and black, sleek feel. I think as long as the headlining remains a light colour there's no real world problems with the cabin feeling small, dark colours depending on finish can actually stretch a space as they trick the eye into an expansive feel. Alternatively all black with a body coloured carpet works nicely, or I've seen grey carpet look very classy with the black.
As for wheels I also like the wire look, but I like nearly all of the ones you've shown. I ended up ordering my torq thrust 2 wheels with zero offset, but they do stick out fair amount (which is what I wanted)

as there are companies now around, which use your old steel wheels, modify them to each result in diameter, width and offset, the decision will not be easier, but then you can be sure, that the centre part of the rim still fits as the original one....
Even a 2CV now looks sporty...

Dear Peter.
Your suggestion sounds... hm... interessting. I have to think over it. Honestly i think i would try a grey carpet first. I don know if my i eyes could stand this o_O
The boxpleat interior needs more work, the leather has a lot of cracks.

So you've been in Innsbruck?
I hope you got some parts you needed.
Honestly i havent checked the car itself, because my wife would have been very very bad to me if'd buy one more car.
I saw the 2200 TC in the garage. It has a nice history, all in one hand, all documented. But it has not moved since years! i like the colorscheme but i wanted a V8.

I follow your thread.
Your work is amazing. You changed all the gauges and the whole look of the car. I'm waiting hard to see pictures with the torq's, i also thought about them. But I not sure about the offset, and i think you bought 15" or even 16" wheels, right?

I talked to one company in Austria.
My idea was to take original 15" or 14" rostyles and change the offset to give them a more dished look. But the prices ...
therefor i can have new wheels from image-wheels also.
And both don get a TÜV unfortunatly.

Thanks that's very kind of you. In fact my torque thrusts are 17", 8" wide at front and 9" wide rear. The zero offset is perfect for my wider wheels, although bodywork mods are of course required at the rear.
I look forward to seeing which wheels you choose! I would go to at least 15" for better choice in tyres (my old Vitesse wheels in my signature photo are 15")
Jim

I like the look of the GT40 wheels, but for me, it would be either the Minilite, the Jensen wheels and the Vitesse wheels as my selection to make a final choice from.

Thank you all for helping...

Today i sat (or maybe meditated) for about 2 hours in my P6. I had myself covered in a thick wool blanket (it`s -14°C today) and thought about your ideas.
I put my black leather motorbike jacket over the seats to get some idea for the black interior.

And i found a answer to myself.
But this doesn`t satisfy me either...because its two answers..

The all black version (black leather, black carpet) looks only good to me if i keep the actual box-bleat seats.
i looked at almost 100 pictures over the whole internet and i don't like black on the flat pleat seats.

Peter you're right, if i look at it in combination with the outside colour, this contrast is maybe the better choice. I also think that the all black interior seems to look more "sport" to me.

On the other hand...
The flat pleat looks so classic. Like a british club chair, but the flat pleat makes the whole seat look more homogenous. this is what made my doubt about the color choice.
The flat pleat seats look the best in a light brown tan, combined with a light tan carpet. it has to be a light colour, to give a contrast to the paprika outside but i also like that style... And the P6 is such a elegant car in my eyes.

So i have to choose not only the colour, also the style.
I think i will have some hours with the car again ;-) ...but not now. Night is very very cold... -19°C brrrr
