rover 2000 tc

trying to restore a 1971 2000 tc on a budget but having great difficulty finding parts, new or used,at the moment im looking for an exhaust manifold for said car, any help to find parts at a reasonable price would be gratefully accepted.

Exhaust manifolds for TC engines are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Some people are having them remade in stainless, but you're probably talking in excess of £500. Even a second hand one is a couple of hundred.

More than any other, this is one reason why people converted TCs to SCs..

You might be able to find a capable welder who can TIG weld the cracks for you. MIG tends to over heat the steel and cause brittle areas. Having said that I mig welded mine a couple of years back and it held up so far.

I recall seeing TC exhausts rusting through at the front bottom bend, maybe due to water being splashed onto the hot pipes. I lagged mine with webbing and covered with alloy flashing tied on wire....

Be wary of wrapping down pipes and manifolds. The wrapping can hold in moisture and speed corrosion unless sealed as above. On the manifolds the more extreme heat cycling can embrittle the steel and cause more cracks too.

im 90% certain ive got one at work, i did have a really really good one, but i cant remember if i sold it, but if i did, i still think ive got a usable one

thank you everyone for the advice,im new to this forum, cars have been my hobby for over 35 years and ive never been beaten by any of them, but i am going to have to think about this one,all welding done, but parts are hard to find and very expensive (dont know why). do i make it or break it.

A difficult one. I buy cars to break for spares, but the likes of ebay and facebook has pushed prices upto the point where it very difficult to buy something at a price where i can make money, on the other hand its also forced down the value of parts i sell, so its hard for me to make any money and i get left with a load of stuff no one wants, but a good bonnet badge can make more money than nearly any other part of the car

whats the difference between the sc and the tc manifolds please,ps the pic is the ford classic i restored 15 years ago, very rare now.

totally different, SC is cast iron and TC tubular steel, they are not interchangeable, unless you also change the cylinder head and carbs to sc versions

im not restoring the car to make money,do it because i like to bring them back to life and use them.they are part of our history,i can understand your situation youve got to make a living but why are rover parts soooo expensive. sell cheap and sell everything, sell expensive and keep everything. thats my motto. ps im from yorkshire we spend our money carefully lol

i also move in classic ford and bmw circles, trust me by comparison rover parts ARE cheap!

would be very interested in buying it if youve got one,

i came into work to do a bit, so i looked for manifolds, as i suspected i have sold the really really good one i had, i suspect that would of been too costly for yourself, i cant remember what it sold for but it was well over £200. however i have found two others, the first one has had several repairs and is a bit rough, but would go again. for that i would need £60 plus whatever the postage is.
