Rostyle wheels - Rostyles for the 3500

I would like to put rostyle wheels on my series one 3500. Will 15" P5B wheels work or are there problems and if so would P6 2000 14" wheels be OK? Thank you for your time. :)

Hi

I am not sure if P5 wheels have the same stud pattern as a P6, but if you put a bigger wheel on you will need to put on a lower profile tyre to reduce the wheel's overall diameter - otherwise the speedo will read incorrectly.

2000 wheels will not fit a 3500, as the wheels were more dished on the 3500 to accommodate the larger brake calipers. Best bet is to obtain a set of new chromed extended wheel nuts (Wadhams has these I think for about £40.00) and a set of Rostyle hub caps fitted to the 3500S.

Good luck

Gary

HI,
2000 WHEELS WILL FIT A 3500. P5 ROSTYLES WILL FIT A P6 THEY ARE THE SAME STUDDING, YOU WILL HAVE TO FIT A LOWER PROFILE TYRE HOWEVER. IT WILL BE EASIER AND CHEAPER TO PICK UP A SET OF P5 ROSTYLES THAN THE P6 AS THEY ARE HARDER TO FIND AND SO COMMAND A HIGH PREMIUM.
:p

I concure with Ian, P5 and P6 wheels are the same stud pattern, P5 wheels being 15" x 5" as opposed to 14"x5.5" if I remember rightly.
Check tyre size's at www.Toyo.co.uk to get an equivilent circumference. From my experience P6 Rostyles are like hens teeth, and P5 wheels were suggested to me as an alternative, so good luck !
If your Rostyles need repainting, check with the MG Owners Club, they have nifty Rostyle painting kits

Eric,
I have heard a tale (it may be allegorical!) that an insurance company would not pay out on a wrecked P6 because it had P5 Rostyle wheels fitted. I have heard this more than once.
Beware. Check first.
Regards, John.

Thanks very much for all your help. I suspected that the P5 stud pattern might be the same but wasn't sure.

Watch that insurance trap, any "modification" can be deamed as a good reason not to pay out. You should inform them of any deviation from standard.

As a precaution, always ensure you have tyres rated to or over the manufacturers spec (H or V etc)

If you tell the insurance that you have fitted these wheels then they can't complain when you claim.

Richard
