Rockers and rocker shafts

Hi Richard,
Apparently when the shafts wear steel
filings embed themselves into rockers,
Then the rockers wear your new shafts again.
Clive.

Yes that is what I've heard. At 500 quid a pop yellow terras really aren't cheap though. I think on my engine oil pressure is lost on the cam and rockers. It's getting replaced with the original engine soon enough I guess.

I am not sure If oil pressure is lost at the rockers and camshaft. The oil output on the rocker shaft is at the bottom of the shaft and even If there is clearance between rocker and shaft, the rockers will be pushed by the valve springs almost allways up so the oil cannot be pushed out easily. This is just theory so practice could be different although i have dismantled an engine with decent oil pressure which showde a fair bit of clearance between shaft and rockers.
The camshaft bearings are large compared to the load it gets so don't wear that QuickType and lots of people don't replace the camshaft bearings.i have ourhauled several RV8 engine and always replaced the camshaft bearings but it is difficult without special tools. These special tools are FairPlay easy to make and make life easy.

Have bought the steel rockers (FM) and shafts from V8tuner, but the parts are not yet in operation as the heads must be overhauled. What I´m a little bit concerned is the surface of the shafts. It looks like yellow chromated and the surface is very rough. Has anyone a similar experience ? Does it make sense to polish the shafts with 800 or 1000 grade sand paper ?

my ones with big steps in were definitely quieter in operation. I'll give Paul at v8tuner a call at some point and ask his advice. He's usually helpful.

Recalling the "Kenzsmyth" Videos on Youtube saying enlarge the holes in the heads where the pushrods go through. I have also bought new HD pushrods. I think (must look...), they are larger in diameter and maybe will rub at the head sections causing a noise also.

Swapped back to another second hand set of rockers. Car is so much quieter. These cheap rockers do seem to be useless.

That was the steel federal mogul ones. Paul at v8 tuner reckons i did something wrong on them as he said they shouldnt be noisy. Entirely possible that i did something wrong - afterall I'm definitely a happy amateur....

Anybody have any experience with the rocker rebuild kits that Rimmers do? Seems a lot cheaper than the sum of cost of genuine parts!
thanks
jp
