so what is the next step, have rubbed this one down a bit with wet and dry but is it ready for paint or does it need something else doing.
cheers MICK

Not sure yet, was going to go to halfords to have a look, not doing anything like yours, just one colour probably silver, any suggestions

I warmed them up with a hot air gun which released some soaked in gunk, then solvent washed them (after letting them get cold  ) and then painted them with an engine enamel.

Let them harden off completely then rub down and two more coats.

Worked for me :)

At the moment they are in the dishwasher ( mrs happy days is out ) when they come out should be clean, what do you mean solvent cleaner?

Mick, I can go and look up the paint code for Almond if you like, finish off your engine bay lovely Almond would.

John.

That would be too much Almond, halfway through having the car re spayed Almond it looks really good so far. Yes ok I'm avin a laff......... But you started it

I just soaked them in some solvent, if you have some that is. Very difficult to get them perfectly clean, and it can disrupt the paint sticking to them.

Almond would be nice on your engine Mick, your car could do with a bit of colour. 8)

If you're planning on using a normal acrylic enamel (almond) spray, i'd definitely use a metal primer first.
Most of the high temp coatings dont need priming as far as i know.
They bake on when the engine gets hot, or even better if you have a parts oven you can cure them before fitting :)
mmm roasted almonds
The last thing you want is peeling (almond) paint, and having to do it all over again!
Jim

I think you may be pleasently supprised if you actually do them in Almond :) rather then the normal grey, but I won't hold my breath

I WILL NOT BE DOING THEM IN ALMOND, Mr Q I expected better of you. Anyway had a bit of a mess around and have come up with this....

.... its very high temerature paint, in a matt finish. The red is engine enamel Paint. Will see what it looks like back on the Arctic White 's'. Think it might be harder to clean as its matt but we shall see. Now to come up with an idea for the massive air cleaner

Mmmmmm.......... Think it may look better with the viens red too, then you could do the air box red as well or elbows red box black????.... Possibly do all the black with gloss finish????? Thats my bit of input for what its worth

Sinister...... I like sinister ! Thing is Guy their are quite a few rockers which are gloss and striped. So I thought go opposite and matt and no stripes, the red shiny enamel with red bolt heads holding the covers on might do it for me. The airbox I'm thinking matt black again but the clips and each end Seam red or red clips and red snout, will play around with it and see
Sinister ........ I like sinister.

At the end of the day it's down to you and I like individuality so the red screws and clamps would work for me not sure on the red snout though Mick

Looks good mate - I am sure that matt will act as a really good base coat for the Almond paint that you know you want to use...

You have more chance of a snow blizzard on Venice beach while I'm there wearing my speedo's and pumping iron, than that happening So Cal V8.
