Right angle speedo drive p6 3500 1972

I have had considerable trouble obtaining a P6 right angle speedo drive transmission end, that works or has the correct thread. I have inserted the speedo cable directly into the gearbox and it works fine with no right angle speedo drive attached.

Does anyone know of a problem doing this, if not what is the purpose of the right angle speedo drive.

The angle drive just avoids that last sharp turn on the cable, and so long term the inner cable will wear through the casing or wear itself and probably snap.

I think I have one good used one left.
