Retirement project

WE all NEED a project i told her ,though i did not get the reply i wanted ,she used several words including, why, what for, bloomin crackers ,waste of money, sad old git, and some that cannot be repeated in civilised society. two days later my totally unneeded retirement project arrived on a trailer.
Bought totally unseen from a very nice chap on ebay who had imported the green beauty from Ireland. the p6 looked very sorry for its self and i smiled at the thought of having at least 4 years of tinkering and garage fun ahead, with absolutely no thoughts of the money pit that was likely to develop from my impulsive purchase. i thought i would join a club and post loads of photos of the upcoming restoration process, thus giving lots of like minded fools a great deal of pleasure.
overalls on ,up and at it , get the welder struck up,join the p6 owners club, send off the v55/5 , spanners sorted, cigs rolled, all ready for the marathon task.
now for the most devastatingly sad news any man ever had to impart to good old boys around the world.
......Every damn switch, light, motor, wiper, window winder, door lock, brake , clutch, engine, indicator, worked like a treat. well you can imagine the overwhelming disapointment rent upon a henpecked chap.
BUT THEN it would surely need tons and tons of welding , wouldnt it?.
i have followed other renovation blogs for the rover p6 that would test the patience of saints. some taking the required 4 or 5 glorious years..

Spirits soaring off come the cover cills, an avenue to cutting, chopping finger trapping, flame beating, foul choking fume heaven . AND there it was fabulous glorious pure unadulterated rust. scrape, scratch, grind, chisel ,and there appeared an area of rot the size of, now i wish i could say a small country BUT four hours later all the welding and patching was totally done ,finished ,ended.
So a warning to all shed and garage dwellers everywhere , never buy a car unseen cos it might not be what you think it is,
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

Bought mine blind on ebay. Never again. I did so in the knowledge it was worth it in parts but I knew deep inside I'd never let that happen

I bought mine on ebay, sight unseen.

It did have bills for £6,500 for the engine alone, and cost me less than half of that, so I wasn't particularly bothered when it was rusty. The advert said it wasn't rusty at all, but come on, it was a car from the 1970s and I kinda expected it.

I did NOT buy mine e-bay mostly because in 1984 the internet had not been invented let alone ebay;) It was classified ads in the back of the local paper or Exchange and Mart in those days....

 Welcome Edmond. Nice to hear that there are still honest cars available on the dreaded bay of e. We're going to need to see some photos, please!

Never trust the Irish ! The amount of times you read in the press about folks buying old bangers from them, and it ending in tears.
Folks like you ending up with thousands of pounds worth of redundant tools, and cars that turn out to be cracking examples every time, there ought to be a law against it.

as you can see it had sc badges but vin states 2200tc export, but it has 2000 engine from a lhd auto. so a bit of a mongrel and no crufts winner.

Easy way to tell.. what are the first three numbers of the VIN?

I also got mine 'sight unseen'.....well I hadn't seen it for 20 odd years, anyway. Arrived in much better condition than I expected - original plans were for it to be a donor car, until it arrived!

there should be a law against the motor museum charging me 55 of her majesties finest coins for the heritage certificate and allowing 5 weeks for the pleasure of waiting . oh and another for dvla lightening my wallet of 50 quid and taking six weeks to get it registered.

You got something back from DVLA !
In your name !
For the right car !

Do tell how you managed it :)

It looks like you are going to have fun with that car of yours, it presents well already :thumb:

paperclips are the magic ingredient so they cant spill the paperwork all over the floor. plus a list of contents . praying seems to have helped too.
