hi thought you might like to see the P6 Im currently restoring.
I haven't owned a classic for quite some time so I thought I would take the plunge on an old P6. its in a remarkably original condition and has only covered 68000 miles from new. its really solid in some areas but rotted out in others....oh well that's classics for you :)
the resto has just started I thought I would tackle the rotted out d post first...

It looks like you're doing a proper job there. Stick with it & you'll have a great classic you can be proud of!

Welcome to P6 ownership!

thanks for the positive comments guys, i'm trying to keep as much of the original structure as possible and only cutting out the rot as required. the sill on the drivers side is remarkably good so I've blended the new panel in as required so as you take the cover sill off it looks original. I've still got some building up to do in this area but that's next weekends job. I'm making my own panels as i cant justify the price of the repro stuff plus that's the fun of re-building your own car :)drivers rear sill rebuild 1 resize.jpg

more work on the rotten D post..I removed this panel to gain access to the main rotten areas. as you can see its quite grotty, I've cut around the rot here.

This repair panel took some shaping from flat sheet but its now welded in and just requires some slight fettling to make it right, i feel i'm getting better at this panel bashing lol. i found a little more rot under the wing bolt so that was cut out as you can see and a new piece is now welded in. once this is welded back to the car light skim of filler should see it looking ok.

Panel bashing - I like that phrase :)

Excellent job you're doing there. I made 38 repair panels for mine, but none of them were anything like as complex as that one. Look forward to see this progressing.

Thanks guys, the D post and inner wheel arch are coming together well now. I must apologise Phil I never answered your question regarding the blue car in the background of my 1st picture. I'm afraid I don't know as the picture was taken at the previous owners paddock before he delivered it to me I used that pic as the car has been covered up since I've had it.
thanks again for the positive comments I've got a long journey with this car and they keep me motivated :) i'll keep posting as work progresses.

You know I am cutting up a relatively rust free base unit. I am only looking for pennies for the bits I cut and getting original panels to patch in might make your life easier - of course, the down side is that I am in California, so shipping might be the deal breaker. Anyhoo, let me know if there's anything I can provide your car.

I will be getting some panels for Mike down in Oz, so let me know as I much prefer this option to binning it.

I am not sure of the mysterious formula used by any of the friendly shippers, but I would imagine it involves, weight, dimensions, time of day, weather, alignment of the stars and whether or not they like the cut of your jib...

I'll post some pics of what remains of the car after this afternoon's session with the plasma cutter.

finally managed to get the rear wheel arch finished D post 3 (1) - Copy.jpg

After
just the bump stop left to fabricate and i can finally move on to the other areas. this has been a pain in the backside to fix.

I have decided to taper out the panel joint just after the D post and have seam welded the rest so that hopefully it will last longer in the future as this was a natural rust trap. when you fit the wing you cant see anything different so its no big deal to me.

WOW, impressive stuff. That Dpost work was really something else! I saw your sill seems to be OK just in front of the D-post. Is the rust on Your car very localized?

Blue car is registered as a 1978 Skoda Estelle 105 s, last MOT 2007.

Cracking bit of metal work, you obviously have some experience.

Good work with the D post it is hard to do them when the original is missing.

Hi
Yeah the rust is odd on my car areas that should be rotted out are fine (floors, sills ect) but the D post was shocking. Once the back end is fixed I'll move to the base of the C pillar then the front inner wing, then just for fun ill start over on the other side :)
