Respray cost

Has anyone had their car resprayed recently? If so, how much roughly did it cost, and how far did you go with the job? Were the panels painted on the car, or removed, and did you take it back to bare metal etc.

I've known the job needs doing since I bought the car. Looking back through my old threads, I was even discussing doing it 10 years ago, but didn’t get around to it. Probably spent the money on other projects instead.

As I’m now doing some minor repairs to the front wing, they’ll need painting when they’re finished anyway, so maybe it’s tine to finally get the job done properly.

If you take the time and remove all the hardware yourself you will save a huge amount in labour. Besides no one can treat your baby better than you when reassembling.
Nothing worse than seeing P6 hardware masked off for painting -you will always get a shit final result.
All panels off for prep and painting.
Remove all the rubbers too even if they are stuffed. Now you will be able to get into all those tight places with your sanding gear.
The stripped P6 is a blessing to the painter to blow off.

I would say you need to bare metal and remove all your panels, apart from the roof to get a reasonable quote, and then be prepared for 3-5k

What do you guys think of Coach painting many moons ago now I watched a guy who could coach paint and a panel would come out like glass

What do we think would be a reasonable cost expectation to get four wings and four doors, disassembled and stripped back to bare metal, painted?

I’m expecting to strip all the trim off myself, and deliver loose panels to a paint shop, except maybe the roof. I’ll have to factor new window scraper rubbers into the budget too. I’ll be doing the metal work myself, but may expect the paint shop to do the final fettling of the shape, if there’s anything beyond me to correct. I’m expecting to bare metal respray, as my car, being a late car, had paint that flaked off from the factory. So I’ll either have to get the panels blasted, or get the paint shop to strip them.

Beware blasting panels will warp them.
And could make a hole.
I suggested to a paint shop years ago that they could spray one panel at a time.
they said if you spray the car ok but if you spray different panel different everyday it wont look the same
I dont spray cars so I dont know

That painter knows his stuff

A few years ago now, i took all my panels off my s1 p6b and in my workshop , lined the walls with sheets and sprayed it with the compressor my self , i did a bloody good job of it if i do say so myself and looked a million bucks ( ok maybe half a million bucks) but i sanded them back, not to bare metal . the panels were straight and i used a spraying enamel which is not the best paint to use.
I dont seem to remember doing the roof though.
I have just sprayed the the sills to my s2 yesterday with the compressor and am getting paint hopefully tomorrow to spray the doors.
Yes i sprayed them with an aerosol and although different shades of the same colour, they came up good , but the clear coat has cracked (funnily enough not crazed) like miniture earth quakes in certain areas , so they going to back to steel and im doing them with the compressor all at once so they are the same colour and then ill work on the wings a side at atime , well thats the plan. Getting a little colder here now in NZ so time is against me.

I had my P4 done locally 10 years ago and that cost £2.5K and I stripped all the door furniture ,glass, chrome ets and the detachable panels . The painter did a few rust repairs, prepared the surface and painted. He sent few things like valances to be chemically stripped . It must now be up to £5K or so.

There's a decent little place outside of Milton Keynes who quoted my brother-in-law around 2-2.5k for his Mini.

Guessing a P6 would be around 5k..

Looks like it could be more than I expected, I’d got around £2500-£3000 in my mind. I had an estimate about 10 years ago and that was £1600 or so. I’ll have to get the car to a specialist for a proper estimate when we’re all allowed out again.
